I have a single speed 16 inch Hayden fan on my 347. It has a 3 row radiator fitted and an adjustable thermo switch with the sensor fitted in the top radiator hose. It cools well . I have the switch adjusted to a few degrees above the thermostat rating so its on and off , as it should, until you are out on the highway then stays off with the air flowing through the core at speed. This fan draws 23 amps on start and runs at 16amps approx. A two speed will need a large capacity alternator and a wiring diagram to suit.

Autozone has the schematic wiring diagram on their site which shows the resistors. The resistors are for the (3) speeds. The fans are controlled by a computer that has various inputs and will control the fan(s) speed. The resistors are designed for (2) fans wired together and may not operate properly with (1) fan.
If you do not have AC you can control the fan using a relay kit from Summit which includes the temperature sensor and a relay.
The black/pink wire from the fan motor is the high speed wire. Connect this wire to the relay kit. The black wire from the motor is ground. The resistor is for low and medium speeds. The black/red wire is for low speed. The red/black wire is for medium speed.

I'm building a 39 chevy pickup 283 bored 30 over, mild cam,4 barrel quadrajet, 700R tranny. I got a 16 inch electric fan from an 88 caddy and built a shroud to mount it ,fan has 2 resistors mounted to it. Can I get some advice on what I need to wire fan. relay,temp switch, or what do i need to get it to work? tks for answers.I'm using an electric fan because my engine sets low enough the stock fan would only get bottom of rad plus a lot of my crossmember and steering
