hpete The idea you had about replacing them with iron eagles is pretty good. The bowties are worth some money to the right person and 180cc iron eagles are way better for your application.

wwilliams181 That thing has way too big of an intake valve in it for a 190cc runner..

crazechris85 Yes they are new lifters it was all bought as a kit push linght is correct my though is car squirters or jets or what kind of base timming these heads like

S10 Racer Did you install new lifters with the cam? Are you sure you are using the correct lifter for the cam (solid vs. hydraulic)? What about pushrod length? Did you install longer pushrods or did you check valve train geometry to get the correct pushrod lengths? I know these questions probably seem elementary but...................

crazechris85 so i got it fixed it turns out i slipped the timming gear on the wrong way got everthing all back togahter adn running its a bit sluggish at low r's anything over 2500 it revs like a chainsaw i was woundring if anyone else is running bowtie heads maybe some pointers thanks

Correct. The cooling system is completely different. So is front of block. No coolant thru the front/rear of the head/intake manifold.

Heads are useless on earlier blocks.

This area (Flint) was where they were originally produced and several hundred "escaped" from the factory. I have seen pipe threads tapped into the front of the heads bypassing into the intake manifold. Entire front welded up and then drilled for conventional cooling, etc. All in vain, as the heads overheat internally and won't work.

ssmonty Most SBC heads with large valves that I've seen have the intake valves about even with the deck.
Just a thought, are you certain the pistons are installed with the valve reliefs towards the intake manifold?

crazechris85 Ok I spoke to comp cams they said there is something diff wrong with the cam they want me to send it back to them

Hey Bob, I never heard of that, Tell me more. Like Corvette motor, with dist behind water pump?

BOBCRMAN@aol.com You do not have the crank gear correctly timed to the cam gear. Take a real close look at the multi position lower gear. Better yet get a gear with only one position.. Problem solved..

crazechris85 Here's what I think is going on as the piston is coming up on
Exhuast stroke the lifter is opening as the piston reaches tdc the valve is fully open I don't think this is correct shouldn't the valve be fully open before tdc I think I got a bad cam
??? Any help please an thanks

BOBCRMAN@aol.com Those look like reverse flow heads. They will not work on a conventional SBC. LT-1 front distrib motors only. You can't use them, but they are not your valve/piston problem..
