big gear head You can make anything work, but it's going to take a lot of work to get the Chevy II rear end to fit your El Camino. You will have to fabricate brackets for the upper and lower controll arms and add spring perches and get all of the geometry right. No easy job for the average person. The only differentials that will fit the El Camino rear end are 26 spline 7.5 differentials. You will have to know what gear ratio you have so you can get the right series for that gear ratio. Working on rear ends is a lot different tha building an engine.

vinniekq2 If you have a chevy II 12 bolt diff, you can sell it at a premium price or change the purches and treat it like a narrowed rear end

big gear head The Nova rear end uses leaf springs and the El Camino uses a 4 link with coil springs. There is nothing about them that is alike. As above, your El Camino has the little 7.5 rear end. Any G body rear end from '78 to '88 will work, but the only G body cars that had a better rear end were the Buick GN and T Type, and a few Olds 442s. They got the 8.5 rear end, but these are very rare and expensive. Only G body rear ends will bolt into your car.
