asked at work about some of these discs and we didnt have any.
But! we have a box of 3m bristle discs!
brought one home, slapped it on the grinder and zoom! primer gone.
one must go slow and move around alot as not to heat up the pannel too much but it works great.
Will work on it this weekend.

|deadbodyman||The reality of stripping is , these are ALL good ways to remove paint and primer and I use them all it all depends on the job and the type of material your trying to get off so you'll have to experiment a little to see what works fastest and cheapest start with a small amount of thinner and a small amount of stripper dont buy in gallons or a full box of sandpaper untill you know.and start with the roof or even better the hood because you can remove it and set it at a comfortable height .also when using thinner and stripper theres nothing to tape up just go to town on it,you dont want any getting in the jambs and making a mess. the proper set up and prep for using stripper without any mess is for a later discussion when and if its determined this works best but for now remove the hood and work on that...|

sometimes the stripper dont work so well and the lacquer thinner works better get 5-6 rags and soak them set them on the surface and cover them with plastic this will soften the old primer up enough to scrape it off with the scraper until the thinner evaporates so be quick keep sliding the pile of rags around and scrape whats under them, rewet the rags once in a while to keep them wet.
Once all that is done wet a scuff pad with thinner and all the rest will come right up be sure to wipe clean as you go or when the thinner drys it'll turn back to primer again...when its all off use a lot of W&G remover and wipe everything down well 2-3 times then start sanding using 80 DA or 180 DA or anything inbetween is fine,when thats done another good cleaning with W&G and its ready for epoxy primer.

where do you buy your rapid strip discs at?
for the 5" bear strip discs to fit my 5" grinder, Acklands wants 37 bux each!

|mitmaks||40 grit is too agressive, use 80 grit and gear driven sander, a.k.a. "mudhog" it'll strip down paint FAST|

I like the stripper and a tip when using stripper is to get some cheapy plastic drop clothes and apply the stripper and then cover it with the drop cloth and let it work for a while then the paint will wash right off..Just do an area at a time..

Try lacquer thinner and a scuff pad keeping it nice and wet ,wiping it off as you go(like W&G) or the goo will turn back into primer when the thinner evaporates ,wear gloves...yes it does matter,to get the best results it has to go to the metal, otherwise why bother in the first place.,
Rol-loc strippers work good in the jambs also..

i guess if the epoxy adheres to the red primer, it should be fine.
i should try to get as much of it off as possible tho.

|adantessr||Personally, I don't deem it necessary to strip to bare metal. Sand the original primer thoroughly with the D/A and then clean and prime as you normally would.|

old red primer removal
I have a 40 Chevy truck and am trying to remove the paint from the doors and roof.
I have tried a 7" sanding disc on my buffer and 40 grit on my da.
the top coat of paint(bake on original lol) comes off quite easily with the da.
Its the primer underneath thats a bear to get fully off.
Do i need to take it fully off?
can i cover it with epoxy primer and would it be fine?
How did you take the old primer off your vehicles?
