Pertronix should have better QC than that. Very sloppy.

Problem seems to be solved.
The ignition module wasn't fastened. It was just laying loose and held in place by the wires and the fact that there isn't much space around it.
The two missing screws are also grounding the module.
This is how the module was out from the box.
Will contact Pertronix support an ask if the can send new screws.

I have tried with additional ground.
A friend of mine tested the first coil according to instructions found on this page. The test indicated a bad coil. That's why I have changed it.
Didn't test the new one before mounting. Guess I have to do that as well, but how likely is it that two brand new coils are both bad?
(Yes I know I know... The master cylinder I have is the third one. The two first ones were leaking past the piston...)

The coil can be tested using an ohm meter. If it's OK and w/the rest of the things you've listed all good, as long as it's grounded that leaves the module as the most likely culprit.
You didn't leave the rotor off, right?

HEI distributor problem.
1934 Ford Roadster Hot rod, first start attempt. 350 Chevy engine.
-Car turns over but won't start.
-Brand new Pertronic D1000 coil in cap distributor.
-All new electric wiring in the car. Made for electric ignition.
-Distributor get 12V power when cranking and when the key is in "on" position.
-Have changed the coil once. Didn't help.
-Have tried a different set of plug wires. No help.
-Have tried to turn the wires 180 degrees on the distributor - no help.
-Brand new spark plugs.
-Fuel is ok as plugs are getting wet after cranking.
-The cranking itself sounds normal.
