I have opted to powdercoat mine. The powdercoater has been in business 15 years and I asked many questions regarding chipping, etc. He is going to charge me $300.00 for my chassis, Black Satin, and additional $75.00 for the rear end housing, bars and front suspension.

E.Furgal the mid 70's monty frame flexed allot.. I'd not powercoat it. if you are going to drive it.. it'll crack.. and even in the dry cali, if you drive in rain the water WILL find the crack ind get under the p/c and water and steel don't mix well.

angelf0926 Yeah I see where you are coming the it an absolute necessity to buy a spray gun or will a brush or roller end up with the same result? I really want to paint it but want to make sure it is durable..powdercoating seems legit...but if I can paint it and outcome is of same or better quality, I would rather paint it.

OneMoreTime It is certanly doable to paint the frame yourself..It is just a hard sweaty job that some guys do not care to do..

angelf0926 Not necessarily a show car because I want to drive it around...perhaps to work a few days and of course on it "doable" to paint the frame for someone who has no experience in painting? If its not a hard task I may want to take it on myself

sedanbob My powdercoating cost $400 - I had an estimate from one shop for $600 to prep and paint it. If you are looking for a show car finish on your car, paint will be the way to go, as it allows you to finish and fill imperfections before you paint. My frame was in great shape and I wanted a tough finish, but didn't need to hide any imperfections. The folks at Pete and Jakes did a beautiful job of welding and I wanted that to show.

angelf0926 Yeah I was leaning more towards painting the frame..I got a quote from $450 to $600 to PC the any of you have an estimate of how much it would cost to paint the frame?

sedanbob I had my frame powdercoated - cost less than having it painted (more than if I painted it myself). The finish is slick and tough. I have not chipped it anywhere in the 900 miles I have on the car so far. You can't touch up with more powder, but you can touch up with paint.

S10 Racer Personally I would epoxy paint it because you can still touchup the paint if ever needed. Powdercoated parts will chip, even by tightening a bolt or nut down on it will chip it. I love the slick finish of a good powdercoating job but it's not very user friendly.

cant make up my mind..PC or Paint?

hey guys its been a few weeks that ive been on this past week i took the body off of my 76 monte carlo...its down to the frame now..i wanted to sandblast the frame then either apply some paint or powdercoat? obviously powdercoating is more expensive, and ive also heard that once its chipped, then theres no way of repairing it..i want to drive the car on the weekends...maybe even to the market during the week and what not..can you help me decide what is better and why?? thanks guys
