It depends on your definition of "great idea." I knew quite a few guys who built really loose engines...ran like crap off the bottle, but dang will nitrous ever seal up a set of rings. LOL Its a bad idea from that 2.8's perspective, but after a 6 pack it sounds like an awesome idea...especially if you want to drop a smallblock in there LOL

Ive got even money on the trans puking before the motor does though

I understand untaxed fuel, but assumed fuel being sold from a gas station pump would be taxed same as any other 'over the road' fuel. At least that's how it was done in FL. Several stations had 100/110 octane fuel and it was totally legal to run on the street. Not to mention E85.

against all odds That's seems to be true. i think the most cost effective thing to do in this case would probably be to find an s-10 with a 4.3 engine in it?

vinniekq2 all odds,I dont think balancing and blue printing adds a lot of power compared to the cost and time.It does add reliability

against all odds Well anyways, to further discuss the question irregardless of the intent of the original poster or his/her current status and whereabouts, i am curious to see the performance gains by balancing and blueprinting the engine and how this compares from a cost effective standpoint vs. adding nitrous.

The engine may need a rebuild anyways and then switch to non-computer ignition and carburetion.

Then again, if the engine has to come out, then yes it probably would be more cost effective to just swap a 4.3 v-6 or even 8 cyl small block............


2) P.S. Here nitrous is completely illegal---can't even transport it unless you have placards. But it's not enforced.

Ohio-Dan Race gas has no road use tax on it. Same thig with off road diesel or farm fuel.


If it is pumped directly into your tank, obviously you are going torun it on the road.........

So that the gas station don't get into trouble, the fuel must be dispensed into a can or tank that would be used to haul the fuel to the off road vehicle it would be burned in. Dan

Now the nitrous thing I can understand. Actually, I approve.

But pumping gas into a can first, THEN pour it into the car??? That's a foolish "law". Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen the first time someone gets burned from static lighting off the can of gas as it's being filled or while filling the car w/the can. I do not even see how it could be legal to require such a thing!

spinn That is correct, people were using a remote to crack the bottle valve. In the end of the 90's police enforced and ticketed for the bottle racked and filled. Did not matter if the valve was open and/or if the system was charged. Then early 00's people made fake sub boxes with bottles in them to hide. I was never into the nitrous scene that much. techinspector1 For any of you with a mind to actually install and use a nitrous oxide system, your first move should be to read a currently published book on the subject, such as this one....

Spinn, when you say "after 2000 the laws were enforced...", does that mean you could be cited for just having the system even though you weren't using it?

Anybody reading this and considering nitrous. It does not work out in small stock engines that well. My integra has a 1.8L AEMint/DCheader/Tanabe exh and kind of peppy. Pic in album. In the late 90's installed a single fog wet kit 50 and 75 hp jets. Not that impressive and not a big diffence in acceleration. Made 127 wheel hp Natural, and 170 wheel hp at 75hp jet shot on the chassis dyno. Limited at 7600rpm. After year 2000 the laws were enforced, and the bottle has not been racked in 10+ years.

cobalt327 The 4.3 V6 was available in your truck. The motor stands and et cetera are available from the junkyard, so putting in the 4.3L V6 could be an inexpensive swap.

There are also kits available to bolt in a 350 SBC engine in place of the 2.8L V6 for that matter. Either one of these options would blow the 2.8L away.

Just something to consider.

vinniekq2 I think you are thinking about acceleration not speed.If you add horse power and torque,then you will accelerate quicker to a point when traction becomes an issue.Maybe give a full explanation as to what you are trying to accomplish and we can give you a bunch of ideas.Then you pick out the plan that works best for you and your situation.Just remember,NO2 is not a magic part that makes something spectacular.It does make impressive power increases,but it has a big cost

Demented Soul Well if the power increases then doesn't it have more potential to be alittle faster as well?
