What kind of modifications need to be done to make this trans safer to drive EVERYDAY? If i would have had a rev limiter my motor would still be together right now instead of throwing a rod from downshifting going to fast..
The thing is, my speedo ended up being WAYY off and i was only spinning 2k coming off the highway. It didnt feel like i was going very fast but i threw it into second and it revved off the chart and threw that shizz lol... I feel like an idiot, I didnt even know what kind of th400 it was and the seller was in the dark as well. I only paid 400 for it and its a new rebuild with deep pan.
I would like to keep this as my DD trans if I can but im willing to make nessessary modifications for a more streetable trans.
Everything ive read makes me paranoid. Saying you need to be into the gas pedal throughout the shifts and no cruising in second and no shifting to first under 10mph and freespinning in 2nd and 3rd and broken sprags. What if im slowing down coming up to a red light and im coasting it in 2nd but then it turns green, can i just slam on the gas and go or is that going to break a sprag or something?

okay well i bought a manual valve body th400 i guess.... It goes
Park-reverse-1-2-3. Is there anything i need to know about this? This truck is my daily driver. the 1-2 shift is really hard and fast but the 2-3 shift seems really mellow

|0trbo4myCHEVUICK||how can i tell if there has been a manual valve body installed instead of there being an issue?|

|0trbo4myCHEVUICK||been reading stuff online about "boost valve" modifications for full manual shift th400's and how you use a plug for the vac mod spot. which mine had a plug. I hope this trans is designed to shift on its own in the first place. It doesent seem like the vac mod valve is sticking out of the trans enough to make contact with the modulator|

guess maybe i have the wrong valve in there
does anyone have a picture of the one i need for use without an elbow or "spring"

|txturbo||If I remember correctly.....there is suppose to be a small pin about an inch long in the modulator hole. Without it, it won't shift. I remember changing out a leaking modulator once and it didn't shift anymore after that. Turns out the pin came out with the old modulator and I didn't notice it. Replaced the pin and it shifted normally.|

|0trbo4myCHEVUICK||If i throw the shifter all the way down, it slips. If i put it in drive i take off but it wont shift on its own, i have to move one down on the shifter and i can get it to like 35mph. lame lemon|

|0trbo4myCHEVUICK||Trans acts the same with a gov and mod installed as it did with neither one installed. guess its time to first gear it up to the shop|

|0trbo4myCHEVUICK||Well i just installed a governor in the dang thing and it still doesent shift|

pulled the modulator and after a quart of cinnamon swirl fluid i can see some sort of valve in there.
Pulled the governer plate off and I can see plastic gears with other internals but is there some sort of rod or something that slides into this finger sized cylindrical slot?
