To add to what Bill says, be sure to "chase" the threads (5/16-18) in the intake where the draw-bolt goes and blow the hole out with a good nozzle. Put a drop of oil on the threads of the bolt after you "wire wheel" it. Torque to 22 lbs. Torque the remaining bolts to 32 lbs., starting in the middle and "spiraling" your way out.
TIP: use a very thin film of RTV on the manifold-side of the o-ring to hold it in place while installing. DO NOT "load it up" with sealant.

Makes sense. I don't pull manifolds very often and the old rubber O ring must have fallen out during manifold removal. I just needed to make sure I understand how the new one goes in before starting the job.

beertracker, put all of the intake bolts in, but ontly finger tight, then tighten the bolt between the timing cover and the manifold before you torque the manifold bolts.

The fairly thick rubber O Ring goes between the intake manifold to the timing cover. When you bolt them together they should line up perfectly, just pop it into the timing cover and bolt on the intake, when you torque it down it will make a tight seal.

Pontiac 400: Where Does Rubber Washer Go?
I wasn't paying attention when I removed the intake manifold from my Pontiac 400. The water pump & rear of the timing cover bolt to the front of the intake manifold. A rubber washer goes between these parts as a seal.
I can't tell from mine if the washer goes on the water pump or back of the timing cover? Does any one remember?
