|mike lost in cars||hi you are correct they are making it harder than it is if your 350 is from a late 90's truck and you just want to put a turbo or super charger or nos about 400hp should be ok but keep in mind as some one said the rpm's could kill keep your self under 5k rpm great but max it out 6k you will blow the stock motor fast i made a twin turbo kit on a 85 camaro 350 fully stock got 523 hp used it for almost 4 years and sold it still running but i never let it go over 5,250 rpm i hope this helps you|

Back to the OP original ask, I cant possibly be part of the current scientific equation currently being beat to death.
Put a 150HP NOS shot on a 68 307 once. so thats 180HP + 150HP = too much HP. Ran it once with a full bottle and a bush leage fuel supply to the solenoids to most likely 7000+RPM at which time it blew itself through the hood of the 68 belair,,,my mom was pissed right off,,,she liked that car.

I would be buying a new rotating assembly for this. But everything would be stock replacement parts except if I have to go .030 over then I will have to get bigger pistons. Jegs sell a scat rotating assembly thats around 500 to 600 dollars and thats probably the route ill go. Just trying to build a good strong engine. Its not a race engine. I guess I dont even need to put the max HP that these parts would handle but 450 does sound very good to me. That would be perfect. I appreciate everyones advise even if it seems like I dont. I have tore down alot of sbc by myself and learned how to do it by myself with none to teach me anything. But those were just stock rebuild using the same parts i took off. Just putting on new bearings and gaskets. I am still young and I am trying to get to where you all are when it comes to building a good performance engine. I really am not trying to be a pain in the ***.

As or what the crank and rods can handle (the only parts you'll be reusing) if they are properly machined and assembled then you should have no problems going up to 6,000 rpm. With that as your max RPM you'll want your peak a little before that, with good 195-210cc aftermarket heads you can get around 450hp out of a 350 if everything is built right- no shortcuts though.

The second part of the question I think comes down to the SCR/DCR and today's gas if you planning for iron heads or are going to elect for aftermarket aluminum heads and then cam selection.
Apart of the machine work aside from a over bore "could" include decking the block and if you do so that could be 0 deck or .010 down.At the very least you should have the machine shop check the deck to be sure it is flat.
These days compression dictates cam choices,head selection,even exhaust which needs to include consideration for trans gearing or trans choices, rear end gear ratios,and tire size.You want to tailor you power curve so you right at the beginning of it off idle or shortly there after for a street driven car.Those loopy idle's sound kewl,but don't do much for you when the cam starts to come in at like 3,500/4,000 rpm.
The catch 22 is the physics is relativity smaller c.i. engines do produce their power band at a higher rpm band.So that development of a power band would be higher with a 350/355 vs a 383 which would be at a lower rpm range.
So the msg here is for you to plan out your build in the big picture.Don't plan on nitrous big shots with a stock bottom end.

|allansmith859||I have a sbc 350 I plan on building for street/strip project. I am taking it to my machine shop to get it re done. (.030) I plan on using STOCK GM PARTS for my rotating assembly. (crank, rods, bearings, pistons, ect). How much HP/TQ can these parts withstand so I know what my options are when i get my top end?? (cam, heads, intake, carb, exhaust). I will use ARP bolts.|

Some of us do this stuff for a living. We give our time here to "better" the hobby. We ask nothing in return. A little help would help us help you better.
Chevy made a 370 HP 350... A stock forged bottom end can easily withstand 600-plus HP.
