You are the BEST!

Thanks AGAIN...you are the BEST...anyone ever tell you that?

I make handbags/purses...and am moving into the faux leather and hopefully the leather arena...then upholstery.

I can tell this machine will do what I want. The machines I currently have will not.

We also have a couple of classic vehicles, so I knew a hot rod venue would help me out.

All of your info is GREATLY appreciated...THANKS!

vpd66 First off, I'm no pro, just in the same boat has you. I bought a Singer 111W155 sewing machine this summer and have been learning how to use it and started doing small uphostery projects. I strongly suggest you get yourself a copy of the book "Automotive Upholstery Handbook" by Don Taylor. I too stuggled with my machine when I first got it and spent hours of internet reaseach and found the manual useless for these machines. I was at Barnes & Noble one day and found this book and couldn't believe it. It shows step by step how to thread the machine and is the only book with clear pictures of how to properly install the needle (I had mine backwards and had all sorts of troubles). It has a whole chapter on how to sew and will bring you up to speed on that machine the fastest way I can think of. Good luck with your ventures!

DanTwoLakes The needles you need are needle system 135X17, which are available in many places on the internet, including E-Bay. Some brand names are Schmetz, Groz-Beckert, and Organ. They come in sizes from 16 to 25, with the higher the number the heavier the needle. Use at least a size 18 needle for size 69 and size 92 thread which are the ones you'll be using the most often. The first picture shows needles in three different sizes, which are 130/21, 140/22 and 200/25. The first number is the NM number, or "number metric" expressed as thousandths of a millimeter. This is the diameter of the shank of the needle. The second number is the Singer number, which is used most often when talking about needle sizes.

Here is a link to a thread supplier: The Thread Exchange, Inc. If I were you, I'd throw away any old thread, including the bobbin thread, except to practice with.

Thanks so very much...!

Wow...thanks so very much for this help! I can rock along now...!

Have done a lot of sewing in my days...but this machine is a bit older than what I have. It was pretty 'frozen' up and my husband and I have gotten it going again.

It has a newer table and motor, but hardly any thread (only on bobbins) and one needle. Now I need to find needles and thread.

If you have any info on that, I'll be you for that assistance to...

And again, thank you, thank you!!!

DanTwoLakes Here is a link to the instruction manual: http://parts.singerco.com/IPinstManu...53_154_155.pdf And here is a picture of how to thread the machine. I used bright yellow thread to make it easy to see.

Singer 111w153 - how to thread?

Have just been given a Singer 111w153 and the instruction/repair/parts manual does not show a thing about threading. Have searched YouTube and haven't found anything.

Anyone know where I can get a threading guide? I hope to advance to upholstery, but right now, I'm just learning how to use the machine but working on some smaller projects...

Any help/guidance would be GREAT...thanks!
