A mechanical temperature gauge is a sealed system with a bulb sensor and capillary tube pre-assembled to the gauge. This assembly is a fixed length and cannot be cut.
The sensor bulb must be installed in the water jacket where the stock electrical temperature sender is now.
The oil pressure gauge requires a small tube from the oil pressure port, where the stock sender is located on the engine, to the gauge.

1989 chevy truck aftermarket gauge install.
I have a 1989 chevy truck with TBI 350. Iam wanting to install aftermarket gauges. But i dont no to go with Mechanical or Electric gauges. The trucks gauges are factory Electric gauges and they run off sensors. All the gauges that i have looked that are Mechanical go in place of the stock temp sensor and oil sensor locatings. Will it hurt to just unplug them and put the new stuff in. Thanks
