junior stocker ALL 283's come with provisions for block mounted starters already drilled/tapped in the block. Been this way since 1957 when the "optional" Turboglide transmission came online. It was an all aluminum transmission, and required a block mounted starter. I'm betting you have a 265 block, and if that's the case, you can't drill/tap it; there's not enough of a "pad" for a starter to bolt to. BUT, you can buy a starter motor adapter plate/ring from any of the Tri-Five Chevrolet vendors (about $100.00) that allows you to use a 168 tooth flexplate, the 3 bolt "bellhousing mounted" starter motor, AND any late model aluminum automatic transmission from Chevrolet. Post the casting number of the block just to verify what you have. Butch/junior stocker.

C-10 Gonna have to make one. I'd reference off the oil pan rail bolt centers. If you smack a late starter (diag bolt pattern) up there with one bolt tight as a jig there's no telling where the thing would be pointing.. parellel.. plumb.. perpendicular.. conky-wonkus.

Can't say I've run across this.

chev starter drilling template

I want to use a turbo 350 behind a early 283. where can I find a template to drill starter mounting holes for a late model starter ?
