|cranky1||My Durango has a Track Lock in it....I really don't care for the design of that type of LSD much. Bought the vehicle new and it started acting up (making noise) at 25k miles so I changed the oil in it and added the recommended limited slip additive and within 4k miles, it was making noise again only louder. Drained it out and cleaned out the crud again and this time added STP to the gear lube. Yup, you read that right. 40k miles later and it still works fine and is quiet.|

I added the "truck" version of the S-spring in my S-10 when I put new clutches in her 8.8", now she'll "chirp" around a tight corner if the pavement is good and hot. Hmmm, my '98 Dakota R/T does the same and it's never been apart.

|big gear head||You can't grind the springs in the Trac Lock. It has a sheet metal spring bent in the shape of a S, not the 4 coil springs like the Eaton Posi or 5 springs like the Auburn. It shouldn't be a problem. Just be careful when turning corners on wet roads, otherwise it should be fine. If you want the cluthes to slip more then use more of the Ford limited slip oil additive.|

I wouldn't modify anything untill I had some miles on it under varying conditions. The old detroit lockers use to make noise when making sharp turns in a parking lot, just the way they were. Just be careful test driving it in the rain on smooth pavement until you know how it will handle.

because your cars weight might not be enough to cause the diff clutches to slip.. 2600 lb / 4 wider tires will help as the footprint will grip the road..
the wifes sporttrac is tail happy in the rear in the rain and the v6 isn't all that powerfull..

|big gear head||The Explorer rear end should have a Trac Lock differential, which is a clutch type limited slip differential. You shouldn't have any problems out of it.|

8.8 rear end "locked"
Im installing a explorer 8.8 axle under my car over christmas,was speaking briefly to someone over the phone and they said something about because
my car only weighs 2600lb that this could cause the rear end to be permantly "locked" around corners. I dont really understand why,can any of you guys explain to me what he was on about? and what options I have to correct this?
