Speaking of keys, I have a buddy who always keeps a spare door key behind his license plate which is held on by screws. If he locks his keys in the car he can take a dime, loosen the license plate screw and open the door. I always say I am going to do that but never have.

John long I cut my old quarter panel off today. I am making tangs so I can mount it flush ready to butt weld. That way I can scribe for the wheel well flange and know it is in the correct location.....Well, hope it is in the right location.

1971BB427 Whacked one of my 15"x4" American Torq Thrust mags on the Falcon this weekend! Driving into the early morning sunrise and didn't see an object in the road. Bent the lip on the outer rim edge, and tire went flat from the bent bead. Tried all weekend to find another, and it seems American has changed their design, and doesn't offer a 4" wide now. They also dropped the two piece wheel design, so even if I fudged and put a 4.5" wide wheel on, the rim edge looks completely different, and it's a one piece design.
I contacted Summit Racing this morning, and the sales person told me they had one in their system, so ordered it. Now have to wait and hope it truly is identical, and will be correct size and design!
Mine have the stamped aluminum outer rim, where new are cast and machined. Both look good, but sure don't want to have to go wider, and buy two also!
Here's old and new in this picture. American went back to the design as is on the car in this picture, and the wheel sitting beside is what I have now:

I have no idea. I wanted to go by her house and look but then I saw she lives four cities away. I still may go for a drive and check it out but I have so many thing going I doubt I will. Just odd, very odd.

tech69 it's just a steck stud lever. It got ran over by a car and the only thing that broke was the cast iron lever to hold the stud. It's such an awesome tool. Great if you don't have a stud less stud gun.

if you're talking about the corking bits I don't have the square tubing yet. I will grab a piece when I get more round tubing for a frame build. I went to osh and it was $26 for a 6' section. At Metal Mart it's $4. I would have gotten it but Rancho Cordova is a bit aways so I'd rather wait to get both the round and square tubing at the same time. I'm gonna just put the end of the delrin bits into the tubing and close it off and then weld an old chisel handle onto it so I can whack on it.

they are also a little long in case I want more and will make them double sided if I have to if the shape makes sense and can take a little punishment from the pounding on the end in the tubing. I'm hoping the delrin around the lock pin will absorb some of blows to help that.

MARTINSR Looking damn good Henry, can you show a photo of the whole tool?

tech69 this HF notcher kicks but with the exception that you have to do some mods to it. I have only shimmed the part that holds the tube with a 16g piece of sheet and a 24g piece of sheet. It's pretty centered now. I'll worry about tapping the bolts to bigger sizes when there's a need. So far it's doing it's job but it doesn't leave them perfect. You have to do some grinding here and there but I expected that. I love this thing. Not sure how far you have to go into the tube but this is a little less than half way or right about half way.

the roll of dimes looked more like a nose full of boogers til I swapped out the wire for a 1/16" wire. Then things flowed a lot smoother and the crazy angles of the tube didn't affect the weld as much. I'll do another one with the smaller wire and really tweak the amps and see what I get. Then I worry about back tracking on the overlap and all that fancy stuff, just to get it to look cleaner. One step at a time. Not a bad first step though.

then I finally fixed my stud lever by fabricating a little lever. Didn't even need to put teeth on it to grip the stud due to the natural roughness of a cut off wheel.

can't wait to put these to good use. I think the next two will be made when the need arises, and I see one already I'll have to make for the pedal car. These pieces will go into square tubing and held in with a locking pin.
