You sure you have them on the correct side ?? that left one looks like it should lean the other way for wheel clearance...

Rip VW I finally got out to the shop today. First day in a while. "The War Dept", My personal nurse grudgingly allowed me to spend some time in the shop today now that all the other self induced shop injuries have all healed nicely. ha ha

I worked this tail panel issue and decided the best thing to do to get it done was to disassemble the frame work and jig it up and finish weld it all jigged and clamped at once. So it is all apart and tomorrow I am going to jig and clamp it all straight. Should have done that the first time last year.. Oh well sometimes we learn the hard way.

tech69 metal mart is one of my weekend spots but their prices went up. Before you'd have sheets sitting on a rack with the price on it. Now they have to cut you one and the price runs up. Blue Collar in South Sac is a very good source and is open on the weekend. It's my spot for aluminum sheet and they have a fantastic bolt collection. They have all kinds of random sizes in scrap and they have good scrap aluminum. Their prices are much better than Metal Mart, but I like the people at Metal Mart.

My good old source for metal is only open the hours I work so it was the last resort and I would send my wife. So I called them just now and they only sell it in 4x10 sheets! CRAP, they use to cut it for you and have scrap there in all different sizes, crap. I got metal from this place 40 years ago for my truck, they have changed a lot.

I just googled the places that are open on the weekend. Both have 18G and aluminum. They are out there. Keep searching. If you lived right down the block I'd just give some to you.

Rip VW Brian,

I frequently need small quantities of various sizes sheet metal and other stuff. The company I deal with is "Metal Supermarkets" I am fortunate to live near a local brick and mortar store. The company also has a large On Line presence. Fast quick service and right to your door. Whether it is an I beam or small piece of metal they can fix you up.

John long I did make it to the shop for my five minutes. The front suspension and steering is together with the exception of the shocks and sway bar.

The new dust shields I ordered from InLine Tube were so bad I spent an hour with a file and grinder making them fit. Have I ever told you guys I absolutely hate after market parts?

MARTINSR I didn't get any photos tonight but got out there and trimmed my cowl up a little bit more. I forgot who mentioned here that they saw rust holes in my photo I had shot. Well sure enough, I looked up there a little better and there was! Crap, funny how we see what we want to see. I didn't want to see any more so I didn't, thanks. I cut it up a bit higher taking care of that and made a pattern tonight.

Now I need to get some metal, can't find any here in town. The nearest place I have went to for years is 15 miles or so from me and they are only open the hours I work. So I am going to have to have the wife go and get it for me.

tech69 that could have been a lot worse. Not like everyone in the shop has a hard hat, glasses, and yells "clear" before lowering/raising cars, but you gotta be mindful. Good thing no one was hurt.

the customer from hell is back. This woman claimed dome lights, a lock actuator, a glove box, handle behind her seat, a broken windshield, and today she claimed a reclining lever broke because of an accident. Most of it was rejected from the insurance just like this will be too. This lady is pissing me off!

Anywho, worked on my bike this weekend and finally got my fender brackets dialed in and a new bezel for the head light. pics soon

He ordered the new drawer slides tonight, I will have them at the shop on wednesday.

Yeah, like I say, much better to learn on that than more expensive or more personal things. I could give a crap about that box really. But he is facing it like a man and will fix it for me.
