When I worked at Winnebago, we used to build a small motorhome on a Sprinter half-chassis
When we first started building the, we used to cut them off 2' behind the cab and scrap the back half of the frame; then somebody came up with the idea of building them with two front halves, and all we had to do was cut them apart.
And yes, there were a few guys who played Tug-of-War with them
We had both Dodge and M-B chassis; and other than the emblems in the grills, about the only difference was that the Dodges were white and the M-Bs were silver

That'd be because the Dodge Sprinter is, in fact, actually a M-B Sprinter - not a Dodge at all. When Daimler owned Chryco, the M-B sprinter was sometimes badged as a Dodge, Now Fiat makes 'em as part of the deal struck when M-B decided that they wanted NOTHING further to do with Chryco and split up the partnership

The joke (during the partnership) was that a guy called and asked how you pronounce it - is it "DAYm-ler Chrysler" or "DIEm ler - Chrysler". The receptionist replied - It is "DIEmler" - the "Chrysler" is silent.

If ya wanna increase the value of a Dodge Sprinter, just switch the badges frm the Ram to the "peace symbol" - double the re-sale value!

Seems the tractors are for export. This one is in Canada and the Yellow one is right hand drive.

Interesting. I retired in '08. No telling how far behind I might be by now. When I retired Cat was running dual turbochargers trying to build an engine that would run clean enough to pass emmissions but as I understand it they were not able to meet the ever increasing restrictions.

There is no reason for them not to produce engines for any market that does not have to meet the USA EPA emiisions standards. As the technoligy becomes available they may well get back in the US market if they have not already.

All the other Companies, (Detroit, Mercedies, Cummins) were running Catolytic converters but that in itself came with all kinds of issues due to carbon build up.

It got really screwy for a while. I'm not certain if Daimler or Mercedes has any ownership interest in Sterling now ???
Daimler, Mercedes, Sterling, and Freightliner are all the same company basically.

Freightliner os technicaly built and sold by Daimler Trucks North America. Daimler designed and built the Mercedes HD truck engine but Freightliner (Daimler Trucks NA) bought Detroit Diesel. This allowed them to give customers the choice of two engines both of which were their own brand.

For those that may not be aware of it Catapillar decided it was not practical to compete with the new EPA requirements and ceased making over the road truck engines. They now make heavy equipment and off road engines only.

Lastly, Freightliner did not sell the Sterling brand. they owned Western Star Sterling, and Freightliner and just decided to quit competing against themselves. They ceased production of Sterling.

Whew, Ain't corperate America fascinating.

Daimler has never sold through FOMOCO unless something has changed in the last year or two.
