lmsport The aluminum case can be welded. I put plates across the ears on the top and bottom to help with this problem with the Muncie cases. In oval track racing cars, we never run a rear trans mount so brasking the ears and bellhousings was not uncommon. Now, we run aftermarket bellhousings and transmissions and have no problems.

junior stocker A lot of these were used in the tri-five, 55-57 Chevrolet cars, where there was NO transmission rear crossmember; the trans just sort of "hung" off the bellhousing. The remedy was to add a rear cross mount to support the trans, especially once more horsepower came into play. And I can agree on the MORONS that would tighten the mounting bolts to force/pull the trans into position; their "ears" should be broken off. Butch/junior stocker.

cranky1 Most cracked mounting ears I've seen were because some moron tried to pull the trans all the way up flush to the bell housing using the bolts. If things are right, it will mate with the bell housing all the way without any gaps then you tighten the bolts.

Borg Warner cracked ears

I have a cast iron Borg Warner T 10 that we got cheap with a broken ear. The bottom right. I see a lot of these broken just like the one that I have. I bought a used case that turned out to be a aluminun case. It said no cracks and looked good when we looked it over.. After cleaning, soda blasting and washing off with water it to is cracked at the case for the bottom right mount.

Does anyone have a idea as to why this trans does this? I can fix either one but want to also reinforce the area and try to keep this from happening again.

Thanks for any information.

Ben Braun
