Hi Guys
Just got my engine back from the rebuilder and now I need to store it for a while. When I say awhile, probably around a year maybe a little more.Whats the best way to do this. The engine is completely put together.
get some disalant(sp) packs and tape them to the back side of the duck tape on the intake, spray some oil in the cyl and put spark plugs in , little tighter than hand tight,
tape up the exhaust ports, with duct tape, and back off all the rockers, plan on having to reset them before start up.( add masking tape on the valve cover and write to remind you of that fact)
cover with a plactic bag.. with more disalant packs and tie it up..
Store the engine the same way you would store a expensive firearm. Don't use WD-40 as a rust preventative because it will evaporate in a week and give you a false sense of security. I store freshly machined engine parts with a liberal coating of LPS 3. Seal it and install the engine in a plastic bag as outlined previously..
We have a business buying and selling hard core race parts. The LPS 3 says no rust for three yrs and it works. The down side is it is paraffin based and a PITA to clean off.
If you fasten dessicant paks to the backside of existing duct tape, do it in a way so that if it comes loose, it will not fall inside. If you have it sealed in plastic, dessicant can be placed inside.
Check often to be certain that the plastic is not sweating and collecting moisture on the inside.
If storing for more than a year, I'd squirt oil in each sparkplug hole and turn the engine by hand a few times. I mght also do this prior to storage as well after consulting with the builder.

when i put my bucket to bed for the winter.. i use engine store from a marine dealership in spray can.. kinda thick spray that will kling to cyl walls.. little smokey when i fire it up in the spring, but never had a problem..
