29 rears ain't that tall.
Not a race engine? So you shift at what... 6500 rpms?

Maybe you should try 4.11-4.30:1

4.56 might be too low.

I have 33's on the back of my truck, and my motor is 6500 rpm max.
I had 4.56 in my Ford 9" to start with, and it was TOO LOW.

I got 4.11's in it now, and they are perfect for what I do. ( street / strip )
Of course, I have a hella-torquey bigblock up front, so I can pull a taller gear with ease.

vinniekq2 doesnt sound like a drag race engine?why not use a compromise ratio or race it as it is?

632Mantis I'm gonna say start with 4.56 and see if that would be a happy medium for ya.

If you go lower, you won't like the street RPM's.
If you go taller, you will just run slower track times.

It's a trade-off.

those gears above are mighty tall. and iirc not aval for our truck 12 bolt

1952 CHEVY
Rear end gear selection on 69 C10 for drag racing

Have a 1969 c10 that i plan on using on the drag strip ( 1/8 mi.) occationaly . Has 35/350 combo,12bolt rear. Motor is stock bore & stroke,600 holley, dual plan intake,670h comp cam,2200 stall converter. What rear gears should i use with 29 inch hoosier slicks?
