Any tricks to change governor engagement on 700r4. I believe I need a little lighter springs to change my shifting points to a little later. It is shifting from 1st to 2nd at about 14 and I would like to to be around 22 or 23. I am at 27 from 2nd to 3rd and I would like it to be 38 to 40. Am I right to say the lighter the springs the later the shift. Would like to change it without buyng a whole kit but I may have to. Thanks
The governor on the 700R4 is very adjustable by changing springs or modifying the weights or both. It is virtually impossible for us to give you any recommendations. One thing you could do is get a Corvette governor to start. Be aware that some places sell governors as Corvette but they arent really Corvette.
What will the Corvette governor do? Do you think I would just be better off to buy the calibration kit and experiment with the springs and weights. I believe that is what it is going to take. Thanks
Od question. I know you can change springs or lighten up the small weilght, but what does the large weilght do. I think my 200 4r works on the same principal, but always wounder what it real funtion was.
"lowriderr9" -- Changes to the Gov will have an effect on all gear shift points so, shimming the 1-2 shift spring in the Valvebody is an option. Valvebodies/Govs are calibrated for rear gear & tire size.
I am new to this myself but I understand that changing to lighter weights/springs makes the transmission shift later which is what I want.
I am headed to the transmission to shop to see if they have any used governors. If they do and don't want to much for them I may buy a few and experiment a little.
SSedan64 Does that mean, if i lighten up the large weight a LITTLE, it would down shift a little sooner. After reading all the dilfferent post, i must of gotten real lucky rebuilding my 200 4r or i spent more time at doing it right and working on the tv cable till it was right. I wouldn't mined if it down shifted a little sooner. If that works, i'm going to rebuild my second 200 4r governor the same way, for my spare tranny. Thanks for your help.
We need to separate the 200-4r governor stuff dwwl brought up.... from this thread on a 700r4 governor.
Each governor functions similar , but are very different in design. The discussion of both confuses lowriderr9 original question with 2 different discussions going on
Spend the 52 bucks on the B&M Governor Recallibration Kit.
You get all the parts AND instructions.
