|novafreek6872||Gotta say... I really like the Summit epoxy, never used spi, but the summit stuff sprays, builds and sands really nice after a couple days. Two sprayable gallons for around $100 is hard to beat.|

|cutthroatkid||Holy neck!I haven't been notified since the first reply.Ive been using summits 2k primer surfacer for everything I've attempted. Its pretty good for what it is&now its on sale for only 38 fills ok I just orderd a bunch to have but I want something that fills really well to help with my lack of experience.I've been blocking my primer with 400 before paint. I use a durablock I just ordered 1 of their memory blocks.Ill see how that works.|

I also know what you mean by uncured primer sanding in little balls...it did take a week of cure time for this primer (when abused as I did) to have respectable sanding qualities...being an Epoxy, it should be expected.
I'm not easily impressed either...for what I do now, price is rarely an issue, it's more about quality...Customers, as usual, complain about the price of material and labor to do quality paint work and body work...When I explain to them that the engine in their car often cost more than the paint and body job and they haven't even paid to put the motor in and get it running properly yet...they more readily stop, listen and understand. When I find a product that works and does what is broadcasted by the manufacturer tech sheets and on top of it all, price is user friendly, it's a no brainer. My experience with SPI is limited, I haven't used it much at all, but, from what I see so far, I will. I mentioned on another thread that I have 2 jobs that I'm finishing up and am getting close to the painting stage....(Old Fords, a model A and a model T) so black is the color of the day. I will order SPI, epoxy, black base and clear to complete these jobs.

By the way guys, SPI's price sheet shows their gallons of epoxy and catalyst are 86.10 each.....

|dogwater||I just got my shipment of Summit epoxy primer yesterday an used some of it.I used a brush ot paint the channels where the t-top weather stripping is glued in. I'm sure its good stuff but be aware that what Summit says is gray is a very, very dark gray.|

Sorry for all the posts I'm still catching up from yesterday...

when you do this for a living every dollar counts and we want the very best we can afford so we try many brands over the yrs untill we find the right one,in that quest we also find a lot of crap... we also have reps come by and give us stuff to try...So when we finally find something that works better than expected or in the case of the SPI epoxy head & shoulders above the rest we just HAVE to let the other pros know what we found....It took me thirty years to find the best epoxy and I've used some real crap and made a lot of bad mistakes I learnd from ....Thers no need for you or anyone else to learn the hard leasons if we share our knowlage.
OK so since I've never used Sumit ,how many guys posting have and how many have used both SPI and Sumit ???? What do you guys think of the two...
|01-17-2013 06:44 AM|
and I'm not easily impressed, I've used about every epoxy that matters and nothing else does what this does,Its not only impressive, its my new standard to measure all others by.if another product comes along thats better or if the price of it gets outragous ,i'll switch but I really dont see that happening anytime soon...

How much was the SPI by the qt ,John and the activator also...
I'm going to take a guess that the Summit activatior is the smae price as the primer ,so 32.00 and 2 sprayable qts ???
If your doing a whole car that wont be enough...well, it depends on how big it is...
I've heard guys using the Summit epoxy really like it..

No one is trying to be offensive about anything. Someone asked for advice and several of us have tried to offer some attempting to be helpful. I understand that sometimes, cheaper products have to be used, especially in a Production environment. However, I try to use the best product possible at all times, so I avoid the "cheap" jobs because I don't want my name and reputation ruined because someone did not want to buy quality materials or pay for a quality repair. Like I said earlier I have no experience with Summit products so I will not comment good or bad, for or against them. I have on the other hand used the best that Dupont, PPG, and MS have to offer and find that SPI epoxy, 2K, high build, and Clears are superior to them in quality, usability, and price. I agree there are cheaper products than SPI and do not argue that point, but I will say that cheaper is not always better. Would you take a car that you had 400 hours of work in to Maaco to get a paint job because they can spray it for $500 instead of spending more to do it yourself with a quality paint? I don't think anyone would, but maybe I am wrong. I will personally and publicly apologize to you and anyone else on this forum if I have said anything to offend anyone. If I have it was completely unintentional. I would never intentionally make a comment that I felt was attacking or offensive, but I also understand that my wording is sometimes not the best. I only hope to help someone with my experience ( and there are a LOT of people on here with more knowledge and experience than I have) and personal experiences. I wish you the best in your projects whatever line of products you use now or chose to use in the future.

|Rendus||I forgot you guys get dogmatic about such things as these and are intensely brand-loyal...I'll leave you to it then. Cheers!|

but if you try to compare the Quality and support of a product sold by Summit(some say made by Kirker)then yes it is a no brainier that you will continue to be questioned on that.
no matter if its Epoxy or base ,clear or whatever sometimes we all need help!
Best of luck
