Deano54 It is a 3 core Alluminum APR and as of right now it is inside the support. I'll take a better look at the support to see what I can do. Thanks for the tips, I'll post some pics soon.

MARTINSR Where is the radiator mounted, behind or inside of the rad support? What radiator are you running? I have seen the radiator mounted all different ways in these trucks and it can make a heck of a difference of course.
The radiator originally sat behind the support (nearer the engine) kinda half way, so with the upper bar that goes over the radiator and bolts to each side of the rad support removed and modified you can move the radiator forward about two inches. I have even seen radiators mounted in front of the radiator support completely! This truck had an inline six originally there is plenty of room for a V8. Never did a big block but a small block fits no problem.

steering gear

Years ago we had to make a new angle iron bracket to move the steering gear to get clearance on a 1/2 ton. There is plenty of room in the nose to move a bigger radiator foreward.

54 3100 454 install

Hey all, about to start my 454 install on my 1954 Chevrolet. I think I got the motor mount placement handled and I have a recessed firewall. The problem is when I mock everything up I only have about 2 inch clearance from my radiator and I need to take the firewall back even more for distributor clearance. Does anyone has any tips or advice for me?
