Hello:

Am finally ready to begin building what I want to be an old rod p/up truck and have access to either a decent art deco chevy or earlier ford cab and my question is:

What would be a good chassis to hang these on and how do you title such a thing if I wanted say an actual 1941 Chevy since this will be the complete body style on it?

Splicing in the subframe from the 2nd gen F-body (Firebird/Camaro) is quite popular. Good brakes, strong suspension parts, lots of options for engine/transmission combinations. Relatively inexpensive and still plentiful.

There are "kits" for such things, too. A good street rod website or magazine can clue you onto the "who and where" details. Generally higher costs.

Registering street rods varies from state to state, regarding VINs and what "year" the vehicle actually is. Check with local officials.

Wiki time

There is a wiki article here on hotrodders titled how to title a hot rod. information is posted there for various states, where I live it is easy. The DMV suggests you meet with the specialist when you first start to see what you need to do, Keep all receipts, take lots of build photo's and the vehicle is titled as the year and model it "most Closely" resembles. and only has to meet requirement for that year . My 32 glass roadster will only have to meet requirements for a stock 32.
