milodon makes a nice oil pan that utilizes every bolt and clears the crank/rods.
if proper rings/honing procedures are used, oil consumption should be no higher than any other small block of similar configuration (hot street use, drag race, circle track etc.)
not sure which dart block they are using, but there should be no issue using any quality block from dart, world, etc.

fast383 Would these 427 small blocks be able to live in front of an m21 Muncie 4 speed? Freshly rebuilt?

hcompton I used cnc many times they are also much more likely to over speed the bit and trash the work peice and continue to do so until your block and bit are both scrap metal.

The price is right and the motor is the right stuff. Dart tall deck block with pro 1 heads should be in the 500 hp range woth good cam and compression.

Now make that an 18 degree motor and the same 427 is 700 hp and 20k.

If 550 hp is more than you need you should be happy if it lives up to spec. But if you think adding a fogger plate later on is a good plan better think about another rotating assembly for any upgrades. Consider it maxed out and you will be happy.

sorry, didn't mean to snap if it sounded like i did.
i get so tired of hearing "cnc" as a buzzword that most don't even know what they do. yes they have a place in machining, but they are not the do all, end all, piece of equipment that some would have you believe.
I've always said a crap machinist can make junk on the nicest cnc, but a great machinist can make outstanding stuff even on worn out junk. it truly comes down to the person running the stuff.

toast I did state that not all machine shops can clearance a 434.You are one of few.
A machinist can also make a mistake with a C N C machine.

C N C machines dont slip as often as people,they usually follow the program

that's not true.
a cnc machine does not know casting thicknesses so what difference does that make?
i recently did one, not on a cnc and also not hand ground. i do block clearancing all the time on a simple manual mill.

fast383 so tri star engines 427 sbc (560 hp) $6,800 shipped.
shafiroff 427 sbc (525hp) $10,000 just over 10k shipped.

i have a hard time justifying buying shafiroff, it seems their prices are very very high.

4340 Forged H-Beam Rods.

What I don't see is who makes them. Big difference in a part that's been fully inspected/backed by a reputable company and a generic imported part that carries an unknown or "off" brand. Not that Scat isn't imported (don't know if the raw castings/forgings are sent here for machining, or what), but they seem to do a better job than some of inspection and/or specifying/applying the spec tolerances.
