350 Engine Code?

Ok, It seems the numbers and letters you posted go nowhere. You know 3970010 is either a 1968 327 block and a 1969-1979 350 block. You will have to get some other codes to figure this out. The small block Casting Date is located on driver side rear of block on flange forward of bellhousing. Here is a Casting Date Example: E038 - (E = Month, 03 = Day, 8 = Last digit of model year (1978)). Find your casting date to see when the block was made. On the left-hand side of the front of the block there should be some more letters and numbers before the suffix LYC. Look for a letter followed by 4 numbers then the suffix code. I am thinking that suffix code is TYC. Measure the mains to eliminate the 327. 327-2.3" and 350-2.45". Sorry I can't be of more help.

GMC boogie In case you need a second opinion, there is no "8". The number is 3970010

Josh, really, can you see how it will be difficult for any of us to help you if you don't provide all the information? Forget about the damned suffix code and post the head numbers. And to answer your question, "why does it have a 8 and not a 3"?....... It doesn't have an 8....... If you get in there with a fine-point pick and scrape around, you will remove the crud that makes you think you're seeing an 8.

I'm through here until I see some head casting numbers.

Help you do what?

You have a 3970010 block and some mexican heads, which remain numberless to us. There is no 8970010 block, no matter what you think you see. You have a medium journal 4.000" bore block, now post the head casting numbers.

I seen some people say the 8 may look like a 3 but i can see it plane as day that this is a 8. The front code is LYC no luck there too. So I pulled the vavle cover off and I got the numbers off of it and there the made in Mexico heads off of a Gm Goodwrench creat motor. Well the guy i got the truck off of told me that they was made in Mexico. So could the block be a GM GoodWrench? This is making me mad I been a mechanic for over 15 years and this is the frist one i ever could not find
