Hi. Yesterday my new cam and lifters. Were dilivered But now im dnt know if i have to pump them up or put them in a container with oil. The edelbrock says no but a lot of people are saying yes . So what to do .. Thnx
Wow! Ive been on here for a while and never thought about posting in English and members in other country's needing to translate it till today! My mother spoke Waloon She was from Belgium! For 64 of my years when she lost her temper I couldn't understand a thing she said I would laugh and she would hit me with the broom ain: LOL
You guys dont speak english like i have learn it on scool And tech talk is also a different thing. So ist i kind of hard to read for me haha but its going better every day
Look im going to talk in dutch And i know for sure you dont know what i mean haha : nu dus .. Weet ik zeker dat je hier de vertaler voor gebruikt hebt als je deze zin kan lezen haha
Yea when I worked over seas in Briton The words were pronounced almost the same but spelled different like tyre we spell it tire, and solicitor we say lawyer! I speak USA English other English speaking country's speak what they call proper English LOL It took a while for me to get used to it LOL
Briton....Britain.
Tire....Tyre granted but solicitor....lawyer don´t sound the same
and we have both.
I´m using the USA version of Google Chrome and when I´m on a Brit website posting the spellchecker goes nuts.
Aluminum....Aluminium.
Fanny is a good one, in the USA....your butt.
I worked for GM in the UK and an American boss told the secretaries to get off their fannies and get to work.
Fanny is not butt in the UK, :nono: it´s another part of the female anatomy, close by though.
It caused a mini riot.
We have some members that tell people they cant spell !!!!! never thinking that the other English speaking country's are actually spelling it right!!! As it is with their country! I always get a chuckle about that! LOL
What model vehicle, year, cu.inch.,roller or flat tappet cam?
Jester
Pull the cam look down the cam bore and see if when you pulled the cam some gunk or obstruction is stopping the cam from going back all the way? Or if when you installed you didn't hit a bearing with a lobe creating an obstruction making the cam fit tight? Does the cam spin easy?
The block is a 14093627. A tbi afther 86 The cam is a edelbrock performer 3702 disgned for a 305- 350 Tbi and lg4 v8 engines. The lube that i put on the cam make spin a lettle harde but i can spin the cam around
Even with heavy break in lube it should turn with very little effort! Did you have cam bearings installed? If you gobbed a lot of cam lube on the rear of the cam it can hold the cam out a little it has no way to escape that area in the rear of the block creating a hydo. lock! I only put the break in lube on the cam lobes and lifters and break in oil on the bearings and cam surfaces that ride on the bearings! You can knock the plug out in the rear of the block and see how far the cam is going back! and replace with a new plug after! What timing chain are you using ?
I am using a different timing chain as i found on my block. The. Wheel fits perfectly whit a litle edge over the edelbrock cam .. My stok cam wasnt. Fit in the weel. Also the cam is to big for the retainer .. I chekked the old bearings and they were in a god shape. The cam spins good whit actually no resistans but not if you give it a swing it spins 50 times around . Or so
If you have a roller cam block that uses a retainer plate, the right cam for that block will have a stepped nose on it to fit the smaller diameter of the retainer plate.
Yes i had a rollerc stock . But npw i am using a flat tapped cam and lifters . So will the new cam stay on his place without the retainerplate . So i can leave it out?? P.s pi put the. Lube from te kit on the cam lift area and i used motoroil on the bearing area .. Good?
Wezz: Yes GOOD
unless there is a problem you just leave off the retainer thrust plate use lube on the surface where the cam gear rides and install the older style timing chain and gears, remember to put locktite on the timing gear bolts! just like on an early block! Is your fuel pump actuating rod hole drilled for a mechanical pump! or are you using an electric?
Do you have a link with a pic of the " older style timing chain" so i can chek that ... Btw yes i have holes in where the mechanical fuelpump is in the block .. But no pin or so. . But 1 question what is retain the cam.so its not running out ? Id i leave te retain plate .. Thanx guys
The timing gear will keep everything in line till it is worn to the point of the cam starting to walk on mild builds! You can install a cam snubber to control cam thrust if your worried about it! or a timing cover with a snubber built in! Wezz I'm not familiar with all the late small blocks Ive only worked on a couple so wait for Cobalt or Vinnie, or Bogie or Fbird ETC. I could google it and cut and paste but I don't trust the internet LOL I use particular timing gears ,but don't know which are the best for your application, ( like timing cover interference, cam walk with certain timing sets , Etc.) Or what you may run into on your end! if it was in my shop I could check on the spot and do my adjustments! These other guys have already run the gambit on what they may run into and can head it off before you need to ask the Question! I'll be on the side lines LOL till I can jump in!
Is this the timing chain set you have? Edelbrock #7800 - Performer-Link Timing Chain
Hello there is an other problem . I have a small block tbi rollercam when its strock . But now 1 bought a performer plus kitt with a 3702 cam flat tapped hydro lifters. They told me you can go from roller to flat tapped lifters but now i was installing a lifert and i saw it is a way shorter. As the stock roller lifter. So the pushrod looks like be to short what can i do now becouse im getting a little confused about this
call Edelbrock Tech line tell them your installing their cam kit replacing the roller cam with their flat tappet cam. They have the push rods you need for the swap as long as the rest of the valve train is stock they will know what you need!
Otherwise you will need to calculate and order the right length push rods.
and my engine codes are 14093627 heads are 14102187 stock its a 305 2 bolt with rollercam 1 piece rear steal ( thats what i found if i chek it in the list
The difference in how deep the flat tappets sit in the roller block doesn't matter, the pushrod length does.
A flat tappet cam uses a pushrod that's about 7.8" long. The stock Chevy hydro roller cam pushrod is only about 7.2" long.
Yes, that's the stock length and it should be very close to the length you need. The exact length can be determined by using a homemade adjustable pushrod (example shown below), or by following the instructions from whatever pushrod supplier you decide to use.
