Yeah, I reread the op and he said the outside hole broke. Repair is needed.

Well, most times, the outermost hole (blue circle) is the one that cracks/breaks off. It's used by both patterns. But if the black circled hole is the bad one, the mini starter idea will work.
The OP hasn't bothered to reply to any of this, so prollably a moot point.
There are mini starters that have the straight across only or staggered only patterns, as well as mini starters that have two sets of straight across holes to accommodate both diameters of flex/flywheels.

He says he has an extra hole in line with the outer hole. This tells me he is using the staggered bolt pattern. A mini starter will use the two good holes and solve his problem.

|Greg T||Cant use a mini starter? They can usually accomodate either bolt pattern.|

If the starter is not properly smimmed for gear to flywheel clearance. if wrong bolts used etc . you end up with broken out holes or broken starter nose casting. Also the factory had a brace that holds up the end of the starter.
Go to the Wiki link at the top of this page, then click on engines, then when on engine page click on starters, ther are 3 or 4 pages of starter information

Since the inner bolt hole is good, you can come off the bellhousing with a support if the block is actually broken enough to allow a nut where the threaded hole was, and then clamp that side with the bracket and a bolt.
Had a friend who's block broke on the outside hole and we did this, but actually had to grind away some material to allow room for the nut, as half the threaded hole was still there.
