|sedanbob||I have a 700R4 in my ZZ4 powered rod (355hp) - I bought it from a local shop that rebuilds them. Their regular build is good to 400hp. They can make it for more if you need it. Warranteed for a year - no problems. Just make sure the TV cable is adjusted properly.|

Switching from a 350 trans to a 700r4 was impressive to me. My 2.73 rear gears were swapped to 4.10 at the same time. It came out of the hole much harder. The trans was out of a S10 and the torque converrter is stall rated at 2600rpm . It was a dead player 350/350. The extra stall and gear made a nice difference.
I downsized to a 327 from the buick lesaber 350. The 327 is rebuilt in late 90's as a factory hp 327.

I have had a 700R4, never again. The amount of money you spend making these take any horsepower or torque you could have had two T350's or t400's. It's just not worth it. Rebuild a T350 or 400 and sell the 700 as a rebuilder to someone. You will be money ahead.

|327NUT||You don't need to "swap" in anything, the 700R4 is not a dog if built properly with the righ parts for a 275 hp cruiser engine. There are thousands of them running around with no problems whatsoever. Now if you have a high hp engine and carpet the pedal constantly then you would go to a built TH400. Do some research yourself so you don't go spending money you don't need to.|

|dwwl||I'm not one for the 700 r4. Everyone i,ve known has had problems with them. If you have it rebuilt, have a few upgrades to better it. Make sure you put in the extra cooler up front, and bigger boost valves. Half the people i know all seem to take short cuts with everthing in life, and pay twice for their problems. Check the pan and see how much junk is in there. That will give you and the tranny guy an idea what needs to be done.|

Sure you can have your's rebuilt.......but it needs to be rebuilt by someone that really knows what the 700 needs to be reliable. Contact some of the performance guys around you and see who they recommend.
You could also call Michael Reed who now owns "Freakshow" coverters in Abilene, Tex. (325) 701-7830. He builds a great converter and comes highly recommended. Go to www.yellowbullet.com and search Freakshow converters, you'll see 14/15 pages of attaboys for Michael. His converters are well priced and free shipping.

Advice on 700R4 Trans -
I'm running a 700R4 in my 69 C-10 hooked to a 275 HP 350. The truck is used mostly for cruising.....very little drag racing or running hard. Well, the trans has died; the torque converter has given up, and I'm looking at options. Do I rebuild (if that can be done, not sure how far gone it is) or do I go with a rebuilt unit?
As I search the net there are several options of a 700R4 from Mild to Drag Strip versions. Is there that much difference???
