|farna||If it's in great condition $6K is good. That means it probably has a good six in it now though. you might consider hotrodding the six. A good cam and an Offenhauser DP intake with a 390-450 cfm 4V moves the 232 six up into small V-8 power territory. I'd go with an Isky cam.|

|movinon||The Ramy is a 1965 model. Back in the day i owned one of these cars and my buds couldnt wait to pull the 6 and replace with a 283 Chevy. I wrecked it befor it could happen.I have a tight budget so all info is appreciated.The car is for sale local for 6,000. thanks to all....Don|

You should consider using an AMC engine/transmission IMHO. Car Craft did a series of articles on a '67 American, they used all AMC parts- or that was the idea.

Yup, post the year. Anything 64+ should be pretty easy, earlier Americans...NOT! Navigate over to theamcforum, there's lots of love there for the 64+ Americans (but little for the early ones)...

What year are you working with? I honestly don't see a need in doing any strengthening of the body or frame or anything like that. The later 440's had a V8 and unless you are going to run some serious sticky tires and dragging it I don't see a need to make a big deal out of the body strength.

|JeffB||I worked for Rambler 1967-68 and the Rambler Rogue with the 343 V-8 and T-10 4 spd option actually used a Ford 9" rear.Best rear for your swap would be a 1957-59 Ford 9" or an 8" from an early Mustang or Maverick with a V8.In the 60's and 70's Ramblers used a mix of GM and Ford bits and pieces.Here is an example:http://www.adclassix.com/a4/67amcramblerrogue.html|

|455olds||I think you have a lot of fabricating to do. No way the stock rear will take any kind of serious power but you are using a F**d engine so you should be ok there. (Kidding!) Seriously, swap rear ends and strengthen the frame or subframe, modify floorpan probably for transmission room. Rewire the whole car for safety. As far as cost, unless you can do all this safely yourself it will be $$$$. I also think you would need to rebuild the stock front suspension or replace all of it. You need to upgrade brakes when you add more power and weight in any car in my opinion. A fast car that won't stop is scary. Good luck!|

Hey hotrodders help me out! I have a Rambler American 440. It has a six/3spd.I would like to install a 302 Ford and a 4 speed.What kind of mods would i need to do to make it happen?Beef up front end?
