The 280H cannot make power with crappy 882 heads.

with the 882 heads, a shorter duration cam is much better.

Been there.

yea i like the 280h cam so im going to stick with it ill just change the converter & gears

Instead of trying to make your car match the camshaft by changing the converter/transmission and gears,

Why don't you make the camshaft in the engine match the car.?

Change the camshaft to a Comp 265DEH-10 12-208-2
or a Isky 201264/271-12

Either , is a much better match to the car and mild converter and 3.23 gears and how you like to drive it.
The right solution at a fraction of the price too.

The car will fell like a whole different deal.

Do you still have those sad 882 cylinder heads on this motor?

gearheadslife before you do all that see if you can borrow someones 26" tires. and see how that does..
or just start with the 3000 stall and see..

fyi 295/50/15 on 8" wide 4" backspace rims fit under the 78-88 g bodys

oh and they are 26" tall

Yea the cam is already in i been running it for about 5 months with 323 gears and 2200-2700 stall. It dosent pull on the brakes when im at a stop light though. Now i guess ill be going with a 3000 stall & some diffrent gears

gearheadslife if you have the cam , and it's installed, 373's and 26"tall tire..
the stall is a tad low even for the 270mag..

I years ago ran a comp 292 magnum cam in a vehicle with a 2400 stall and 273 gears and 28" tires.. it was fun at 100+ the cam came on hard at 95mph..

it is not too low at all with a 28" rear tire. The 280H cam does not like a low low cruise rpm. It will be very happy on the hiway with a 28" tires and 4.10's.

If you want a cruiser the 280H s too big.

Pick a cam with 218 to 222@.050"
Like a Isky 270H mega cam if you want a milder gears car.

Nice street cam.


Over a short 30 to 45 minute hiway run there is no fuel to be saved, by choking off the 280H cam with a gear that is less than it wants.

If you want mild gears. Change the camshaft to match that.

Remember, the engine does not care what you want. An the camshaft in the engine sets the whole personality of that engine
and how the car performs. That cam wants rpm.

2200-2700 stall why this undefined vague wishy washy stall range?

mostly street some highways


The 280H will perform real well with a 10" 3200 stall and 4.10's. Generally off the shelf 10" high stalls come in two stalls
a tight 3000-3200 stall version and a higher 3500-3600 stall version.
You want one of these two converters. (If going drag racing pick the higher stall converter for the 280H cam)

A "2200 stall" is a stock GM 12" th350 converter. Not right for a 280H cam. Get a 10" converter.

The 280H does not get busy till 3000 rpm and does not like to idle nice in gear with a stock 2200 converter.
