matt921 I don't have any of the warranty stuff from the cam. I bought it from a craigslist seller. Its brand new but he didn't give me any of the paper work in the box. Like I said in the start I have new lifters the cam is brand new im not in a hurry at all to put this cam in as it is still winter and the season here does not start till april. But I will look into different springs.

S10 Racer I'm not 100% sure but I thought for the cam warranty to be good, you had to install the correct springs and new lifters for the cam. Regardless, having a good valvetrain is one of the most important aspects of the engine and the most likely to break and cause other engine destruction. I would step back and get the correct springs, get them installed at the right height with good retainers, at least chrome moly and good pushrods not to mention new lifters. JMHO

matt921 Yes there are quite a few in the area. I use to work at one of them. I was told by my boss that I could get away with using the z28 springs. That with the lash at what the cam recommends I could use them. But to check for coil bind. The thing is I already have them don't have the cash to go out n spend 200 dollars to buy comp springs right now. What he told me same with the machine shop is I can get away with these springs I have but if I run into issues I can buy retainers that are cupped to help get away from coil bind. but I wanna get a few words on this.

vinniekq2 the cam manufacturer will tell you the springs you need.
no speed shops in your area?

matt921 ahhh doo doo. Ok well I look into some other springs. what should I look for. I don't know how to read seat pressure an stuff
02-10-2013 06:33 PM Z/28 aftermkt springs will not work with that cam. In general they are only safe/good to about .490 lift

406sbc new cam 306s coil bind questons

So I recently bought a new comp 306s solid camshaft. I have some springs from a build I was going to do on a 350. So here is was I have now. Double hump heads, speed pro flat tops, 5.7 powdered rods. But to what my main question is.

The stuff I have now is the 306s cam solid The 306s is a .555 lift 306 duration 260 @050.solid lifters I bought from the performance shop in town. and a set z28 valve springs. Here is info on the springs o.d 1.260 I.d .880 seat pressure 110@1.700 90@1.750 open pressure 325@1200. So once everything is together It recommends .022 lash. I figure with .22 lash lift will drop to 533. This will hopefully put me into a safe limit on my springs.

Here is the main question if I do run into issues is there a way to get away from coil bind with out changing springs(building on a budget). I head that there are retainers that sit higher up on the valve stem. I hope I have put enough info to get some help. I know I kinda rambled on to sorry about that.
