Our January 2013 art contest winner cm324 has selected "Show Vans" as the topic for this month's art contest -- the van craze of the early 70's, with over-the-top paint and interiors, re-imagined if it came back today. All makes and years, and even delivery body styles.
This month, the winner gets a $50 gift certificate to Speedway Motors.
Voting will take place in the last week of February, so please have all entries posted by the 22nd.
Well, here we are, in the midst of a "Nor Easter" blizzard, so I'm snowbound, and may as well knock some drawings out. LOL Here's my renditions of vans I'd like to see built.....
Back in the middle 1960's and early 1970's northern California"s roads were full of the Hippy Bus. There were ones with custom paint jobs to just rusty junk' but they were every where. Most Buses had a long haired dude , with a women wearing a peasant blouse, Which he called his old lady. and the couple had at least one dog. The VW was the van of choice for the hippy and became his icon transportation .

I'm getting busy at work as well ....but here are a couple of quickies from me. One standard van and one delivery van. (more panel truck I guess, but hope it's OK)
Very nice piece. I think the early vans may make a comeback, only in a more subdued fashion, not the over-the-top style of the 70's. I have seen several nice examples of late including an Econoline like yours.
Digging through some old work I came across this one that I did for my then girlfriend -now wife - back when my hair wasn't as grey. Hmmm. Maybe I'll redo it for her. That should gain me a little doghouse insurance.
Thanks so much CM,, I really appreciate it! I like the thought that the 70s would make a come,,back that would be awesome!! If only the GAS prices were in the 70s ..
Thanks so much Brickyard!! I've been trying to get back sooner, but life's has been busy brother.. You all are such talented guys!! I'm really fortunate to have made friends with so many great artist!!
Thanks Dinger.. Being from California you remember that movement. The late 60"s and early 70"s were special... Or my-be we were just younger and that was our time. All I know is the world was bigger and the Cops were slower and a fourth mile of pavement was wide open....Sign Miss those times Lincoln Highway Johnny.
