Don't know how well the straps work ,but I see a LOT of propane tanker using them might just be a company policy,??
back in the 90s we attached one to the bottom bolt on the axleof my Peterbuilt ,Suppose to jumble radar signal,,,it don't work on Vascar in Texas ,

'bout them there straps;
back in the late 50's-early 60's if you had a taildragger you had to have those straps, as far as I know they started on old gasoline trucks and sorta became a fad after that tom

Remember the string lights and the windows tinted half-way up in the 80's?

|Dave57210||Urban myth: Unless you prevent the build-up of static electricity, you risk blowing up the whole neighborhood when refilling at a gas station. So the straps "ground the car" - no sparks - no boom|

The thing is "normal" people will have them. The one my son showed me a picture of was a stock Rav4 and the guy has them on his Civic too, totally stock otherwise.
I remember getting a shock now and then when I grabbed the door handle, can't remember the last time, decades ago. So why in the world would you need them now? Some kind of Urban myth on falling asleep, or protecting the computers or something?
It can't be getting shocked a the door handle, they're plastic!

As for why they would put them on.....look at the rest of the pic....looks like homemade skirts too. Just another way to add more blue bling and the reflectors probably look cool to the cars behind at night.
I see a new fad coming....

I've heard that some people would hang rubber strips or wires from under their vehicle for 2 reasons.
1) To through off the signal from police radar.
2) To release the static charge built up in the vehicle
that can make you sleepy when driving.
Don't know if it work or not. Never tried it.

Ok, way to simple for you guys but my son just showed me a photo on his phone asking what the heck this thing was he saw on a car on the way home from school.
But I don't want just what it is, why in the heck would anyone use them is the question. I just can't see a need. It would be akin to putting screens on the windows of the cars because of that one time 12 years ago a fly came into the car and went in my mouth while I was talking.

I didn't drive the cars ,we used these Pancake engines in sand rails and Mud buggies ,the had much more power and better cooling.
