74C10 Thanks for the tip.
Not really looking new metal, but if I were to come across a bed in better shape just figured I might save some $$ while not have to worry about rust eating up new paint down the road.

hp246 Sounds to me like you are looking for replacement sheet metal anyway. I wouldn't spend too much time on it. I might try to put a blaster nozzle down the stake pickets and clean up as much as I could quickly, then use something like Rust Bullet or similar product to treat the rust the best you can. You may have to concoct a swab of some type to get the area covered. Do you really want to go to all of the extra work of welding plugs over the stake pockets if you are going to replace the bed anyway?

74C10 Budget project I've had....just trying to get control of the rust and get some paint on it before it turns into one big patch panel.Been keeping an eye for another bed but no luck.

Rusty truck bed

I'm looking for some ideas or tips some of you may have.....
I have been working on my C10 truck bed removing rust and rotten panels but am not having any luck working on...or I should say in, the stake pockets. They have heavy rust inside them and the bottom side of the bedside as it rolls down into them.
Using a porting set and wire wheels, have managed to get most of the rust out but not all.Seeing down in them and trying to get at the underside of the top is my issue.
I am curious what others have done or should I just cut them off and weld the hole up,which is a cleaner look.I feel like they give support to the top rail so I held off on that route.
If I do get the rust out how do I get paint back in?
Any suggestions?
