aosborn The bracket doesn't go between the housing and the axle flange, it goes on inboard of the axle housing flange. As to the recess, I would suspect that it is either to capture the heads of the bolts so they don't spin while tightening the axle retainer nuts, or it goes toward the outside so the caliper centers over the rotor. It should be easy to figure out by just mocking up the parts. When installed properly, the bleeder screw on the caliper should be up so air cannot be trapped in the caliper.

Good luck

installation of wilwood rear disc brakes on 9 in. ford

I have a couple of questions concerning Wilwood rear disc brakes on a Ford 9 in. rear that I hope I get someone could help me with.
1. On the " U " shaped calipher mounting bracket there is about a 1/8 recess machined into the bracket on one side( follows the contour of the axel) . On the other side flat and smooth. Is the recess side of the bracket mounted toward the center section or towards the wheel ?

2. I have a " full circle axel retainer " The retainer is really oblong but they called it a full circle retainer. Does the " U " shaped calipher bracket fit over the axel retainer or under it ? In other words, do you mount the " U " shaped calipher bracket on first then put the axel retainer on or vice versa ?

Any help would greatly be appreciated..I checked the Wilwood web site but they didnt go into that kind of detail.

This maybe to much to ask but pictures of diagrams would help a lot.
