Putting parts together for hot smallblock

Finally got things decided on my cam selection, heads, and other parts for a warmed up small block in my light as hell 30 Coupe. Rotating assembly will be Eagle 4340 crank and H-beams, Comp XR280R roller, Probe small dome pistons, AFR 195 comp. ported, Brodix intake, Holley 750 HP model carb, HVH carb spacer, MSD box/dist./coil.......

Calcs out to 11.52 cr. with a dynamic cr of 7.88 using 65cc chambers, 0 deck, .036 gasket....domes are 3.5cc. With the breathing ability of the heads, and being in the sweet spot for the dynamic on this cam (242/248 @ .050, intake closing 66 deg) this thing awta make some power.....

Warmed up street motor with some occasional strip runs....

Let the bashing begin from this bunch a cranks..........bwaaahhhaaa :evil:

BigMo, sounds like you've done your homework. I like the parts you've put together. My only concern is that you may really be pushing the limits of 93 octane. :mwink: No doubt you'll make some power, which I'm a big fan of! Just keep an ear open for some spark knock or pinging...or dump some Torco in that bad boy:D. Good luck with the build and have fun with it.

Hey thanks snakebit....everyone tells me the comp ratio is pushin the limit, but according to dynamic calcs, the cam will bleed off enough pressure to run the gas, and tight quench to resist knock, and still pull hard up through the power range. I was going to head into a cam w 250@.050 but formulas say that's more in the 11.5-12 cr range. I want this motor to really run hard. Yes those heads (after A LOT of research) are the ticket

I think you're right at the limit on the pump gas, but "should" be just fine. Its nice to see someone put some real time, research and thought into their build. You know where you want to be and you did the math to come up with the right combination. More people need to do these calculations...I think you gain understanding of how all those parts work together to produce HP and torque. Too many people want to rely on someone elses thinking for a build. I'm curious what you'll be putting this beast into?

most people dont know that it takes that kind of detail it takes to make parts work together. instead people want to get into hotrodding have to start somehwhere so they collect swapmeet parts that whene assembled, end up making a buncha turbulent hard to tune jumbled up chrome parts. as far as making you knowledgeable guys do the thinking for them that comes from wanting to learn. you have to start somewhere. you should be glad you have to oportunity here on this site to steer the rookies in the right direction. im glad for your advise. ive made a great combo from a damn 305! thanx to you guys, i can likely combine parts myself with the knowledge ive gained from researching this site.

Its going to upgrade current block in my '30 Ford Coupe. It weighs 2260 w me in it. 3.90 gear 9" Ford w T350 using a TCI 3200 stall converter. I will discuss combo w Comp today, maybe lower cr slightly, but the calcs say a dynamic cr of 7.5-8.5 is ideal for 91-93 octane. I'm sittin right in the middle of that range. Full high comp race

S-10again!, I hear you. I was refering more to the guys who have no desire to put any thought into it themselves. I love to help anyone I can on this site or in my garage. You put thought into your build and then listened to the critique of others who wanted to guide you. You used the knowlege you had and learned from the experience, and when you decided on your final parts for your build...you understood WHY those parts would be the best for your project. I truly love being able to pass on little bits of knowlege here...but believe this...I've gained far more knowlege from the guys on here then I've ever been able to impart.

I stayed with 10 1/2 to 1 on my 434, and I'm running a little bit more cam than you. The only thing I worried about was getting GOOD 93 octane gas. This gas anymore is unpredictable, or at least around here. I used to run Chevron but I haven't seen 1 of those stations in quite awhile. Ought to make one quick little hotrod for sure. Good choice on parts.

I do appreciate the comments and advice for sure. Now im getting squeemish about the compression.....ive done this for race gas motors many times, but im going with the experts on the math to run a hot rod motor on the street with that kinda gas.....
