|gonzo08383||my motor is almost the exact same specs as yours except i run a comp cams thumpr. i have to run 93oct or i get pinging bad. try the hotter t-stat and drill a small hole for bypass. a regular mr gasket should work fine for the experimentation. hotter is more power and if your radiator can keep up you should be happy with the results|

180° - 195°
From experience I tried the 160°, but a 180° or 195° ran smoother and it's better for the oil so it can burn off contaminates , condensation in your oil. Oil likes higher temps anyway.....An efficient radiator will keep a steady temperature that helps too.

Thanks, I was actually looking at one of the Mr. Gasket hi flows, but you wouldn't recommend them?
The Stant SuperStat is cheap, but if that's a good one, I can just go ahead and get that.

I had trouble with both Mr Gasket and Robert Shaw pill style thermostats.. I ended up pitching all that expensive junk and using the regular old Stant t-stat..
I get the smallest drill bit I have in my box and drill one hole through the stat.. Looks like Stant does a similar thing with the V notch..

Also, this stant is suppose to be better, but it's also cheaper.

I'm getting a bit confused, I was going to buy a robert shaw t stat, but you supposedly can't use them with a stock style water pump.
So, what about Stant, are they good?

My compression is around 10:1, I think. I'm thinking I may go ahead and try one of the Stewart hi flow 195's.
I just hope it doesn't cause any detonation.

I'd try it, it is defiantly a tuning tool.... Heat is power...
My Pontiac 462 likes the 160 and runs better on 89 octane then having a 190 with preimium.... I had to experiment with it though...

|gonzo08383||depends on your compression ratio, iron/aluminum heads, octane of fuel, and lots of other stuff. my 350 loves 195*, it really rockets up. i also have to keep premium fuel in it and if it sits too long i have to put additive in the fuel or it will try to run backwards when i shut it off. i say try it out and see what happens. its not like its going to blow up and a t-stat is under 20 bucks. i'd turn the timing down a couple degrees just to be safe tho.|

SBC 195 degree Thermostat
In my truck with a with a built 350 SBC, would it be good to run a 195 degree thermostat, and is it likely to cause detonation? I've been reading about how it may run a bit more efficient with a 195 T stat.
