hydraulic roller( use a solid roller if you rev higher)
108º intake center line
112º lobe separation angle
229º intake duration at .050
235º exhaust duration at .050
power band from 2-6000 RPM red line
compatible with 10:1 CR

If you buy aluminum oval port heads,mild hydraulic roller cam,victor junior oval port intake,850 Holley,Im sure that would work.
now 500 - 600 is a big range,pick a number or performance goal,IE:mid 11s in a 77 Camaro with auto weighing 3800 pounds with driver and we can nail a formula

|Summit77||Ok I'd like 500 hp maybe 600. So I start with heads that can hold and produce that power. I want naturally aspirated. I want a 454 and it also need to be street able so idle to 5500 rpm would be ideal. Which my research says performer rpm cam and performer intake. I'd like 10:1 compression which here in Canada we can do so and run pump gas premium. Is this somewhat on a good track or am I far off?|

start with simple math
how much horse power do you want?
then choose the heads that will make that much power.
choose N.A. or compressed.
choose engine size and RPM range that best delivers your needs.
then choose CR/cam/fuel management
Make sure ignition is compatible
Tune exhaust to match system

|Summit77||Well they say go 383 stroker so if I'm going threw the screw around with mix and matching different engine parts might as well go big block and get it over with. Diesels are easy a monkey could slam power in a diesel. Gas is tricky that's why I want to learn it. Just having trouble figuring out how to choose the right cam and heads and what cr to run. Turbo 454 would be nice but this is my first gas project and don't want to get to far out of my league and end up with something that sits half done for 15 years like most of the people I know.|

the biggest difference between diesel and gas is the fuels.If you understand how to make power with diesel engines,then build a gas engine like a diesel and use propane
Turbo charged propane engines make decent power for reasonable costs.and cheaper than a diesel.
maybe you have a couple diesel turbos kicking around your shop?

....with a camshaft duration of 227 - 230 degrees at .050" lift. This is a basic guide. There is much written on the subject.
Here's a couple of links to articles that explain things a whole lot better than I can.
