"Gearheadslife' I think your right in many cases about the cost of suspension set up being worth more than horsepower. I've had some real torque monsters of motors that ran high ET's, put the proper suspension underneath that engine and cut a lot of that quarter mile time...it's all about how to get the most use out of that strong engine. Loosing weight, the right tires, gearing, suspension, they all play rolls every bit as important as Horse Power. One question I've never hear'd an OP ask is, how can I improve my driving skills to get a better ET. The difference between me driving my 70 AMX in quarter mile and my wife driving the car is about 10 seconds, why, same car, same Horse Power and in this game 1/100 of a second can be the difference between winning and loosing.

and almost 10 flat on gas
cars set up. is worth more that hp.. 9 times out of 10

750 hp Holley,performer air gap, Dart shp or better heads,10:1 cr,1 5/8 long tube headers,MSD 6AL or better ignition,3k-3300 converter,50/50 rear shocks,maybe 90/10 front shocks???loosen sway bar on front when racing,improved fuel delivery system,28x9 slicks or maybe shorter?lose 100 pounds off front of car,more total if possible.
If you buy bargain parts,think about a little more cam&CR&rear gear.

|fordss||Title weight says 3309 pounds. 2 hundred pound driver. So l'd say at most 3600 pounds more than likely less weight due to stuff taken off the car, keeps it lighter. Super charging 305 can't be done. The engine needs help losing a main bearing or oil pump low pressure. Rather build a 350; got a friend that does dirt track. Put's 305 HO heads on 350s between 10-10.5 pressure ratio Flat tops. Seeing what l could do with that kind of set up|

|fordss||It's a 1985 pontiac grand prix; chevy stuffed. Planning to put 373s in the rear end; with either a th400 or th350. Most likely a 350 or bigger small block. Right now its a 305 with a cam 600 carb, headers, dual glass packs with a 700r trans. That's the vehicle it needs to run on pump gas.|

|vinniekq2||whats the dip in the torque curve? the lower hp usually means under cammed or not breathing enough on top.That car should be way into the 12s unless you are towing trailer|

Okay with my current engine dyno sheet . What would my current 440 , all rollered out , do in the quarter.
71 cuda convert 4 speed. Its a 3.23 in it now, but there is a 4.10 pumpkin somewhere. 26" tire. 4000lb? No idea.
The hp tq do match at 5250 or whatever, the graduation is weird.

spinn,Im saying your mopar should go low 12s,except if it has the dodge direct connection,purple camshaft.
WDCs example is a well set up car could sneak into the 12s with 350 hp. so many variables,I would rather tell someone their car will go 12.9s with a 12.20s engine,,,just in case there are other problems

low 12's.. How about 15.0 flat.
The 440 is sacred to me. That is one impressive tank of a bastard. It was a little soft on compression back then, I couldn't afford heads. It was still dynamite. 13 seconds and I thought it was the fastest thing. The number does not sound so fast nowadays.

WDC I cannot see a 350 performer hauling the quarter at 12.98 in a mid size 3300lbs car.
If it can , I am doing something really wrong.
13 seconds for me , is like a big block with large hydraulic cam, single plane, big gears.

what kind of car? are you going to use slicks or drag radials? what engine? are you willing to use steeper than stock gears? 4 speed or auto?
Like already mentioned 400 ish HP engine can do it with the correct set up. you can do it with less hp if the engine is a torque monster.
toss in the car info and what type of driving you will do when not racing,and lets talk a few combinations
