28rodder the 8.8 might be a very good way for you to go as well...It's worth checking out.

That would be the Lincoln Versailles, made 1977-1980, with a 9" having disc brakes that pretty much bolts into the Mustang. Good luck finding one in a wrecking yard these days.

Mac88 I thought about an 8.8 and I actually have one out of an 88 Mustang with 3.73 gears, but I was told that the modifications it would take to bolt it in would'nt be worth it.

AutoGear Would an 8.8 rear axle be a better option to fit in there? I don't have a ton of Ford specific experience; but I know an 8.8 is plenty strong for what you're doing; can have disc brakes, and most seem to have 3.55s or 3.73s from the factory.

I know a lot of guys fall all over the 9"; but, it seems like the answer there is an AFTERMARKET 9" in most cases; to get the brakes, the big ends and etc. that most people want. I know a lot of guys say "well its easier to change ratios, but most of my friends and customers generally dont change ratios often, if at all.

9 Inch Rear-End

Looking to swap the 8-inch out of my '68 Mustang with a 9-inch. I've came across several 9-inches but from what I've read they are all either been too long or too wide. From what I've read, there are very few donor cars out there that would have a direct bolt in 9-inch for a '68 Mustang. Does anyone know what cars would have a 9-inch that will bolt up directly without any cutting or welding?

My '68 has a 302/C4 combo right now. I'm planning on eventually moving up to a mildly built 351W so I would like to go ahead and get a rear-end that will hold up. I've read several articles about rear-ends and it seems as though the more I read, the more confused I get.
