|Bee4Me||Yup,"IF" they are raised letters,a very fine nap micro roller with a smooth stroke will get you there.NO PUSHING!!Just roll with it. Have enough paint to cover 1 letter at a time. Done it myself and just been reading a article in my latest Mopar Action on a new repop 71' Cuda grill "insert" repaint using the same idea. Go find an old raised letter gate and practice on it if your concerned.Don't matter if it say's Subaru.|

The last time I was in a factory they used a roller, similar to the ones used for silk screening, , just a bit wider than the letters, medium density rubber and fairly thick paint, and roll a test on a piece of window glass. mabe dress it up with the edges pin striped.

|35WINDOW||For my Company Vehicles and such I've taken our Logo and the Logos of Companies we represent to the local Sign Shop and have them make Stencils that we take to our Body Shop and apply/spray-they last so much longer than Vinyl letters-(just give them the Logo and the dimensions and they will size them to fit)-then, some of my guys (who will remain nameless) can't use a pressure washer on 'em )-just a thought-|

I don't know how you tried to paint the letters but you mentioned that they are raised. I've done this type by painting the area that the letters are in on the gate and then use 1/16th fine line tape and outline the letters, then mask up the inside of the letters with regular body masking tape and shoot the rest of the tailgate body color. Without a stencil, that to me has always been the easiest way to do it...
This may be what's on Brian's how to video...didn't look at it yet...I suppose I should but I've already got this post written...It was snowing the other day, today it's wet raining and miserable and I'm taking a lazy day off...LOL...I'll look at the video later...LOL.

Hmmm ... here is one of the ideas I have had rolling around in the back of my mind for ages.
My truck was painted in "1983 GMC Silver Sand Metallic -code 15E" the last time, and I think it looked very good with it's chrome accents. I had them do the lettering in gloss black at the time, but was never really happy with it.
I was thinking of having the letters air-brushed to resemble a "faux chrome reflection" (i.e. sky blue at top, with grass green at bottom)
Some "Esso Bee" actually stole that rusty old tailgate many years ago, and I found and old "Chevrolet" tailgate to replace it.
Now, (if I ever get back to the restoration) I see that Goodmark makes a couple of tailgates ... both HELLA expensive!
$750.00 with letters
$600 for without letters
So now I'm pondering about just getting a plain tailgate and installing a more modern "GMC" logo, perhaps even a full tailgate applique like you might find on a loaded 88-98 model?

|33Willys77||Advise for painting stuff like that - years of practice. I am a pinstriper so things like this dont come overnight. Now, are the letters raised on the panel? You can try masking with fine line tape. On a flat panel, you can go to a sign shop and have them cut out a stencil - they can use a low tack stencil material for logos. Are you spraying the paint or trying to hand letter them? If hand lettering, what paint and brushes are you using?|

Studebaker tail gate painted letters?
I tried painting my logo letters on studebaker tail gate, looks like CRAP,there has to be an easier way. What is it or any advice, thanks, Dana
