upgrade

New welders with all the bells and whistles are a lot different , I recently bought 3 used newer commercial sized lincolns, Mig, Tig, and a stick welder. I get a free weekly news & video From Welding tips and tricks .com. A former welding instructor , Jody does a lot of evaluations of various machines, and even dug out a 50 year old machine to show how to start a tig weld with out high frequency.

heat shield in a can

50 plus years ago we always used an asbestos based mixture heat shield. form it like molding clay, a rope around your weld area to minimumize distortion, then remix with water and put it back in the bottle. Today's formula does not contain asbestos.

tech69 it's night and day. I have the hobart handler 140 relabeled as a "weldmark" 140. Works about as good as the Miller we have at work.

Do I need a better welder?

ok so a couple of years ago a picked up a gasless flux core welder the only thing I do with it is weld in path panels.Sure theres slag but I use the spray&its not too bad.Well lately I've been swamped with people wanting rocker panels welded in,cab corners etc this thing seems to get the job done but I notice for not alot of money I can get a beefier Clarke or hobart if I upgrade will I be happy? Will I have better tack welds? Will I be happy with the gas...as I said I do fine with my el cheapo but will I do better with gas? Thanks gang.
