You could drop a solstice drive train in it. I think it would handle that .
It wouldnt be insanely powerful but can be made to run pretty good. Just a thought.

Quite a lot of what I learned as a young man was hanging out with fellows at the drag strip and with club members who had been there, done that. I also read everything I could get my hands on. I learned early on that money does not grow on trees and that I would need to budget my projects to X dollars a week or X dollars a month in order to get through the whole mess and still pay rent and buy groceries. I remember saving up 50 bucks a week for 10 weeks to buy a pair of Aldan Eagle coil/over shocks for the front of a roadster I was building.

Yes, pics would help. What is it you want...talking about the frame, are you looking to do a pro-street or something?
Here's what I would do if you're just looking to do something/anything with it, and I'm assuming it's at-least a hatchback or wagon, not the worthless notchback...and that you're serious enough to see it through.
First research. Lots of people have hot-rodded Vegas back-in-the-day, including guys who were barely old enough to drive at the time and had unsupportive parents owning the driveway. So you can do it too but know what you're getting into.
Build a mild 350, try to use aluminum heads (late '80s Corvette, aftermarket etc) and intake to minimize the load on the body, w/ a TH350 trans for simplicity. Source motor/trans mounts, aftermarket or V8 Monza from CL or somebody at a forum. Get exhaust from same sources, Certain '60s manifold can fit, Monza manifolds are tiny but headers will have ground clearance issues. Next you'll get some experience as you work out all the details required to make it a running car, such as fuel, cooling, driveshaft etc. Figure two weeks full-time, or a few months of Saturdays. By the time you have it so it can take it's first trip around the block, you can say "you have some experience" with cars which may be the best reason to try something like this. Then, take it easy on the throttle 'til you're ready to deal with the rear at which point you can make your "stage II" project be narrowed rear, subframe and sheetmetal, etc. and later go even further if you choose.
For all that, you're only doing something that's been done a million times already, will have problems with the front "frame" over time, was severely out-of-style once, and what you're left with is not worth much if you try to sell. There are hacked-up old Vegas everywhere that didn't get finished, or got mickey-moused up then thrashed, that people put on CL trying to make them look like they're worth something and they're just not. And, what makes an old guy's eyes light up (such as me, who's 52 and built six V8 Vegas by the time I was 22) may not be right for a guy your age. So anyhow, you gotta know what you really want...no one else can decide that for you.
With all that...my vote's for the Vega, but you see where I'm coming from. In my day such projects were cutting-edge and it was easy to be enthused about them. In 2013, it's kind-of a re-hash I'd do more for nostalgia reasons, like to build a '70s thing.

|superchevy89||Ya from what ive seen and heard this isnt gonna be an easy project more or less probabky the real reason the car was given to me but rust wise its pretty much spotless its sat in our garage for the past 12 or so years|

I built a couple of Vega projects back in the early eighties. As previously stated. Not a task for a novice.
At the time, most Vega type cars were disposable so it made for an inexpensive project start. But the costs/labor of a V-8 streetable car are large.
Needs custom headers, exhaust, radiator and rear end. Fabbed mounts. Better brakes/suspension all around.
Probably best to sell body as a Drag car project and buy a Mustang, Camaro or G-body something and build from there. Less fab/custom $$$$ mostly bolt on stuff and readily available parts..Lots of support.

This is a pretty difficult project to tackle as a newbee. I'd suggest you try and take a look at one at the races. Even if you have to travel a bit it will be worth it to get some idea of the scope of the project.
Take a look at the car. These are subject to sever rust out just about everywhere. This needs to be addressed first.
Even a relatively low powered street rod will need a lot of help in the chassis area.

No idea where to begin
Hey everyone joined 3 forums and no one ever replies but who knows ill try again Ive got a 73 vega my father gave to me after he suddenly lost all intrest in. Which seems to be a joke on me with figuring out what to do with the frame since its an h body. So my question is what do I do/need to get the frame and suspension together. Ive never built a car from scratch before just figured it would be nice to get the experience since I love cars and racing. Anyway as the car sits at this moment I have a body frame worthless suspension and tires. Where do I start?
