ap72 What's the advantage of using a head that's too small?

vinniekq2 head flow numbers matched to cam profile with the math of possible power, you can better decide what heads will flow and to what RPM.
AFR 195s would take your 383 to 7,000 rpm with potential to make 600 hp

ap72 Flow is a whole separate issue. I mean that they won't go into choke on your typical 383 until just below that. Where it peaks depends on other things but I'd aim for peaking a little below your redline. Peak is sort of irrelevant though as you want the highest average powers through the strip, many engines don't fall off before redline and that may be perfectly okay if it nets you more average power. It's all in the curve.

210cc heads are typically a good choice for a hot street sbc.

Malamute Thanks, it appears there is so much mixed information and everything seems to be do or die without much middle ground. I think i'll just look at a proven combo like the zz383 and say, "Hey, that works for me."

When you say peaking around 6200 rpm do you mean that the heads are capable of producing enough flow to make their highest power at that point? Thanks.

ap72 Most people on this site have no clue when it comes to cylinder heads. 210ccrunners are a good match for a redline around 6800rpm on a 355 or around 6200rpm on a 383.

zz383?

From advice that I've been given here and from reading other posts it appears that everyone thinks that intake ports over 200cc on a 383 street engine is not ideal. But, looking at the dyno numbers on the ZZ383 with 210cc ports and peaking at 5500 rpm it looks great. what gives?
