parks911 They are a little high price, but they do look good. I hoping I can get away with less then 3 qts. I'm only painting the cab & front end. The bed is being removed & a custom aluminum flat bed with all the bells & wistles is being built for it.

The best thing is save your pennies. I don't have clear enough to cover the cost of everything that is being done yet. But hell, I just rolled my F-150 last Saturday so now it is going to be done my way from frame-up (including interior, exaust, ect.)

It'll take a month or so before my buddy can get it in the shop also & a couple months to do all the mods to it, so that helps out with the collection of more pennies.

He is a 1 man operation & I'll probally go in as much as I can to help him out with it. Hopefully that will reduce some of the labor costs.

Ranchero_65 parks911 Your Very Welcome !

After I posted the reply I went back looking around and did find where they have the color. I was sort of sticker shocked when I saw the price tho , $445 a QT a little out of my price range . I figure I'd need at least 3 qts and that is doing it perfict whitch I doubt I can do . I have not shot paint in 15 + years and then I only used DuPont Centri . AE

parks911 Thank you Ranchero_65.

That link you supplied to me was alot more helpful that the actual House of Kolor website.

I have printed all the tech sheets out that refer to the Kameleon kolors & they do have the Kameleon kolors listed. You have to actually click on purchase to see the colors they offer. If this link works you can
see them here!

I will take these tech sheets to the man that will be doing my painting & have him read them & tell me if he feels confident to do it (remember he has never sprayed custom paint before). I will even buy him a instructional video for him to view.

I can see where he will feel incapable of doing it, never spraying custom paint before. I'm sure he's afraid that he will #*^! up since this is a custom truck that is being built.

I want to be his guinea pig, hell if it doesn't look good then it doesn't look good & all that I will have invested with him is the paint. If it does then imagine the kick back I will get sending custom work to him! (Ya, right. The nearest custom paint shop is 170 miles away.)

I guess those tech sheets answered my question! You have to use HOK products from primer to clear coat.

Mr.malibu HOK is very good paint, but beware of the kandie colrs they are very prone to fading.I painted my 88 chevy truck kandie tangerine an the paint faded pretty bad within five years.Just my 2 cents

Here's the Tech sheet for this paint.
They also have some color charts on there web sight but I don't see any of the Kameleon kolors listed.

Yes & no!

they have the Kameleon color that fades blue to red & they also say that you can mix any dry element into the paint, that is where the silver flake comes in.

I don't thin you buy the paint straight from HOK. I was looking at colors & pricing at

troy-curt The HOK spec sheets will tell you every thing you need, and how to do it. That would be a lot easyer for you to understand and you would have it right in your hands.

You should have started a new thread in the body and paint forem.

parks911 What do I have to do to spray the HOK Kameleon Blue to Red with a Silver Mini Flake.

If someone can email to me or post the actual painting application method (from bare metal to clear coat finish) for me that would be great. (what gets sprayed where & how many coats of what)

I have a F-150 sitting at bare metal right now & I want to have the Kameleon custom paint applied.

I have a good paint man working with me that has all the tools to do the job but he has never sprayed custom paint before. He said he will spray it on if I purchased everything for it.

Sorry if this seems like a pain in the but post, but I really want my truck to look goood!
Hopefully someone will feel enuf sorrow & pitty for me & will send me their knowledge of what to do!

jwart if you want to see HOK check out their color book it $35 so look at dealers. ea candy color is shown with 12 optional base coats to acheive totally different colors. you want custom blue you say. House Of Kolor is owned by Valspar for about 5 yrs. so if looking for dealer another option to look for. hok web search got me to dealer search for our local area.

2wld4u Man, I was going to ask if HOK paint was worth the money, I need to paint my stang, Its banged up pretty bad, not to mention my cowl hood recently decided to come loose and banged up the cowl, and the top of the car, I through a quick paint job on the stock hood and stuck it on there for now, So is house of kolor all that good? Im looking into a bright tangerine color or nitrous blue, Im not sure yet, but could they make custom colors?

i use HOK everyday. in my bike paint shop. webpage listed in my profile will show you alot of samples. i uses ppg or hok on everything. just read the tech sheets for each of the products or get tech book. be aware when talking candy colors some of them take 6 coats to get the color that adds to time & material cost. pearls & flakes can be added to base or clear. must put 2-3 coats straight clear on top. i have found it is best to rub out the day after clear, as it gets harder & quicker than other paints. hit it right away & you wont chase scratches as much. as far as spraying most of my jobs don't need to be rubbed out, the clear is that good, & it flows so your wet spot jwart

302 Z28 I agree with Grashopr, the guy at our local PPG store told me that they cannot match some of HOK colors, especially the pearls.

10-09-2003 09:41 PM
Grashopr IMHO HOK paint has far better colored pearls (if your not trying to colormatch) than anything Doupont, or PPG put out. I dont know what it is about their colors, but ALL of their colors just look terrific. I've sprayed their Kandies, their Kandy Base-coats, their Shimrin Pearls and their Basecoat line, and they cover nicely, flow out well, and have just as good of adhesive properties as any other paints. Their old UMC1000 clear is a little runny, but it's VOC is high and it's clarity is the BEST I've seen. Very nice, stuff, just read the bottle 4 times before spraying and you'll be fine.
