I am so glad i moved to the south. Its been cold all year in md lots of snow and man just no fun at all. When you stop getting off from school because it snowed it lost its magic.
Didnt realize it was still so cold up there. We been in the 70 off and on for a month. With a bad day tossed in every so often.

I always paid cash for all my cars or had a company car until 91, I started my own company so cash for new cars was out of the question. At one time I had 5 vehicles on the road, I had to pay on credit, it was the only way I could grow. I had to have brand new because of the k's I was travelling. I'm semi retired now so work vehicle is new and paid for. Might outlast me?
My mum paid cash for everything and I did too....til a point. Life changes.

On most 80s cars i take the abs off since it does not work right. Its just not fast enough to pump the brakes the hundreds of times per second needed to actually be better. I find it a never ending source of amusement the sales pitch is hundreds of times per second. In some condition i feel like they take away braking. Dead locked tires put up a heck of a fight when you have to snatch them to lock with mildly damp roads when they get good and hot they still grab pretty hard.
Works great on ice and does a bit when turning but yes most of the time there is no time for it to even work or the driver to adapt to the change. So things like this do happen. But letting off the brakes cause they felt funny during a crash is pretty much a stupid thing to do. Not sure if that would have prevented a crash maybe just delayed it till a few cars later on down the road. But would not be the first person surprised by anti lock brakes. Lots of countries require skid control and recovery on there driving test some just require you drive around in a circle look like you got a clue. Many countries require the ability to know what is under the hood and how it works and how to make minor repairs.
tpms is very annoying these days as well. I had a car that didnt like the factory setting to be more accurate it was right close to the softest number when it was happy. And of course out of any 4 cast aluminum wheels only three of them hold air. Even on a brand new car once every 4 months it needed air in the tires. The dealer loved to refill the tires but a week after leaving the dealer the light would be on for sure. Finally had to tell them to stop messing with the air pressure in the tires its where i want it.
In stead of tpms why the hell didnt we just make rims that dont leak. Any ford gm or just about anyone thats ever owned a car with alloys has seen this problem. Which is very annoying.
I am also not changing tires on the side of the road thats a great way to get run over in the DC area where i used to live. I will stick two cans of fix a flat in it and drive it home or some place that changes tires. TPMS be dammed. To date have not had one go bad from fix a flat.
TPMS is one of those things that get on my nerves should be so great but turned out to be total crap. If i ever had a flat tire i wouldnt know it because the tpms light is already on anyway. Dont see why they dont all show the tire thats flat and the pressure the tires is actually at now. So if it said 8psi i would stop if it said 31 i could drive to the next gas station or rest area.
Just like speedos. Cops get super laser and we got the 1900's tech on the dash might as well have to wind it up its so useless. I have digital dash in my vette but still could be a lot better. I think they spent more time making the dash readable and usable in the 1950's than they do today.

|Rodnit||Speaking of computers, most vehicles these days have TPMS. My '12 had it and when I sold it I kept the extra set of rims that I use just for plowing. When I bought the '16, the computer couldn't read the '12s sensors. Had to replace all sensors.......|

|idrivejunk||Yep the security crap starts in 01 on the GPs. DBW starts at 2004 and after 06 or so, theres not much that can be altered. I know ABS totaled my el Camino. The lady crammed the brakes in her Caravan and had never felt the pump work before so she let off the pedal and knocked me into a line of cars at a dealership! Made me bleed.|

Not like were in space and need this crap we just dont. cables and shafts work great lets keep using them.
Not sure if you know this but most computers are very very locked these days. You can reprogram them but not all of them some allow changes without giving access to the base programming and some will tune around your changes and bring things back to there proper factory specs over time.
Some cars like merc and bmw nissan and many others you cant touch the modern ecus without the nissan computer interface dealer only tool and its up to date software. Because if it does not contain the version that is on the ecu it wont mess with it just says you need an update. Easy if your a dealer but a small shop with a 25K computer and piles of update packs every month its hard to keep up. Most new cars require specialty shops to make mods. I had a 2010 genesis and as far as i have known they still have not cracked the stock v6 computer. Some upgrades can be made by a few shops but not many and not easy to get done or cheap.

I recall when drive by wire became commonplace. My reaction: Cm'on, man! And now they are messing with the connection between foot and master cylinder... wow. I was raised on the mentality of fixing things you own, and don't really like using technology that is designed to not be fixed.

Limp mode is the curse of all new cars. If it wasnt there most cars could run just fine with the problems they have but once thrown into limp home mode the computer will not give up full power again.
I think the first computer cars are going to be the hardest to get running and driving as they become classics. We will have suvivers and rebuilds but no repaired cars from the 90-20?? Since the tech in them is what fails and there is almost no way to repair it without replacing the stock parts with the same or similar part. Once thats all gone not sure how were going to get these cars up and running again.
Just think of how many clutches and brakes need to be changed but at least these parts can be made up or modified to work but computer brains for strange things will never be worked out. Like security systems and skid control.

Some people have more nerve than brains. The cameras are everywhere these days and they're only getting better and more numerous. If your in a city I'd bet there is very few places left where there isn't video coverage.
I know somebody that has been arrested for shoplifting from a store and bringing the items back she stole for a refund. They have her on camera doing this at least 10 times. How stupid can you get? Those drugs must really cloud your judgement.
