We started a trivia thread over at another forum and it has been a lot of fun.

Here are the ground rules. It starts with one question. The first reply with the right answer gets the floor for a new question. It continues like that unless, A) the person who has the floor doesn't ask a new question, or B) no one gets the correct answer. In that case, the person with the floor asks a new question. No more than one question on the floor at a time, and discussion/clarification is welcome until the floor is taken over by a new question.

See this thread for an example of how it goes: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/trivia/1454/page1/

First question: In the 1952 Indy 500, what type of fuel was burned in the record-setting pole-position #28 car? Hint: it won pole position by a full 4 mph over the second-place Ferrari

They weren't original on any car, they are just as we have described aftermarket accessories added by a shop like my sister had. There were many different manufacturers too which really made a PIA when replacing them. I had a pile of different tips and lengths of the aluminum for replacements. There were also a thicker inch or so one too.

My sister had every color you can imagine on big spools up on the wall and you got pretty good at cutting the right length after a few months of installing them.:D

But no auto-manufacture that I know of ever put them on the cars in the factory. Those mouldings on your Camaro are not factory, there were no mouldings on any of them from the factory, those are "dealer installed" exactly the same as on that Datsun.

These were on the car when delivered to the dealer ,not installed by the dealer I also have a 78 Cutlass I also bought it new ,I waited for it to be unloaded off the truck I ordered the car new it has side molding from the factory ,it is listed in window sticker as Color keyed body side moldings.

The reason that most of the body side moulding were aftermarket was because they were cheaper. Not the quality but the actual out of pocket expense to the dealer. The dealership I worked for had me installing aftermarket Motorola radios rather than buying factory Delcos. Anything to save a buck.

Nope 496 was right. A-Bomb blast. Remember if you're going to be around any Atomic Blasting, like maybe what the North Koreans are planning, roll down your windows or you might get a collapsed roof. If you walk out the door one morning and your car roof is collapsed you'll probably think, " Hey, I'll bet we had a Atomic Bomb blast last night and that wasn't the neighbors tv up to loud"

I have probably mentioned this a hundred times here because it was so amazing an event for me. 7-8 years ago I was working on a car and I found something that looked like this in the trunk.

It had a brass plaque on it with a dedication from president Truman to one of a few men who developed this "Proximity fuze". I knew a little bit about the fuze but here was this award to the maker! It stated something along the lines of this along with the atomic bomb being the two most important inventions in the world and that these two things won the war for America. I couldn't wait for the owner of the car to come pick it up so I could ask him about it. He told us it was presented to his father by the President himself! This amazing piece of history needed to be in a museum and it was in the trunk of a car, how sad.

Well I gave my answer from memory and the name is Oppenheimer, not Oppenhauser. I'm getting old. Robert Oppenheimer is considered the "Father of the Atomic Bomb" He is the person who headed up the Manhattan Project.
J. Robert Oppenheimer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After re-reading your question are you looking for Einstein? He is famous for his Theory of Relativity. He consulted with Roosevelt early on in the quest for a weapon of mass destruction.

Just as a side note, the bomb during it;s development was referred to as "The Gadget"

You are correct on all counts ,Your floor.:D I watched a special couple weeks ago it said Rossevelt would not see Einstein so he gave te drawings and plans to another man to give to the president, because Germany had almost completed their bomg ,we only beat them by a couple months,if they had theirs first might have been different outcome .Einstiens Quote ( what have I done )

16 cyl opposed double overhead cam motor? It actually looks like a mock up and the pieces even look like they are carved out of wood. Just a prototype start of a real motor, that's how it looks to me.

What American made car has the year of the car proudly displayed right on it? We are talking right there on a part of the car it says 19XX. I have no memory of seeing this before or since on any car, ever. I saw this part at a swap meet this morning and thought it would be a good question on the trivia thread. Though I know one of you is going to know it immediately.

I don't know about that 76, wow, my dad was selling Buicks at that time I would think I would remember, that don't mean it doesn't exist but I don't remember. Nope, I am thinking of another one. It wasn't connected with anything, no anniversary, no nothing. They simply put the year there, very odd indeed. The first one I saw years ago I thought it was so corny and done by the owner of the car (like "Teen Angel" painted on the quarter) but nope, every one of them came from the factory with this year emblazoned on it.
