aosborn I have done some work on an 02 530i including some work on the rear suspension. It is a fantastic setup and I think that it would be well suited for a hot rod swap. The rear suspension assembly hangs on an all aluminum subframe, is easily adjustable (within a relatively small range), rides beautifully and has tons of wheel travel with next to nothing for camber change and toe steer.

tony@roadstershop Anytime you modify suspensions you have to be concerned with geometry. Even though the IRS may be a cradle mounted piece, you will have to consider your track width ( will it work with your car properly without modifying it ), correct installation of the IRS to maintain proper camber gain, pinion angle, anti -squat ect....that would be the basics at a minimum to watch and pay attention to what you are doing. The other thing I would take into consideration is availability and cost of replacement parts... if you are dead set on an IRS and don't have the budget for a performance aftermarket piece like our Fast Track IRS, then I would consider the mustang, T-bird IRS... any way you go it will be some entailed fab work and designing to get it in a chassis not originally designed for it.

Bimmer IRS?

Hi to all from first time poster.

I was told the some modern 7 and 5 series bimmer's IRS were more or less self-contained unit mounted on a subframe. Anyone got knowledge about those? I knew the old Jag IRS was that way but not a multilink design.

I never seem anyone graft those bimmer IRS on older muscle cars, but the idea sounded interesting if one doesn't have to deal with geometry, mountain point etc.

thoughts?
