I was just going thru some boxes of parts from my truck and came across this dimmer switch pedal, it's a Cal Custom piece and I believe it was on my truck when I bought it in 74. I put it on my Rambler so I can enjoy it every day.
I have the bare foot gas pedal and dimmer switch, had the moon like your dimmer swiych ,it is in the shop some where ,I have got to finish my truck so I can clean the shop and find something.
Do you remember one John? I bought this truck in 74 and I honestly have never seen another of these. The bare foot style ones, seen a zillion and a half but never another one of these. They couldn't have made many. LOL, I in searching for a photo of the barefoot one I ran across one like mine on the Hamb, it went for $75! Geeez, those rat rods are "low buck" huh?
You know to be perfectly honest now that you post all the variations, I can not swear I have seen them all. I have seen the dimmers switch one and of course the accelerator pedal but not sure which version. The guys who built the gasser type cars used to love them.
I made a bare foot one back in metal shop in high school. Made a casting and poured the aluminum in. Still have it. As for the one MartinSR has, I don't know where the dimmer came from, but that pattern is identical to the gas pedals on speed boats. Check this out! http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOON-GAS-PE...ies&hash=item5aef6e14b3&vxp=mtr#ht_2471wt_806
Funny you should mention that you made the pedal, the gas pedal in my truck when I bought it had a matching gas pedal that the previous owner cast in metal shop.
One advantage to the Moon to some of the others it has a lip on the edges to catch on racing boots if throttle don't return (broken spring etc )you can pick up an accelerator pedal with your foot ,keep your eyes on the track..some others might have this also ,don't know
Brian thank you for posting that picture I have had one of these floating around my garage for around 25 years and never knew what the heck lit was. Spent the morning looking for it through some old parts boxes. Due to clean the garage as it looks like a grenade went off inside, if I find it Dinger it belongs to you.
Cool! I need some serious organization with my parts. I have three cars that I have a pile of parts for. As I get one on the road, knowing what to keep, damn it's hard. You can't keep everything, and if you do keep it, it isn't any good if you can't find it or forget you have it! I am going to put together some good collections of parts so I know where to find them!
I don't think it will happen here I tell younger people don't you throw anything out. Sometimes it's good to carry it to a show to match it up with what's laying on the ground. And of course if you throw it out you ll need it a week later. Would you believe I have gallon of Dulux from 1978 that has never been opened. Again thank you for posting that picture
I have a saying regarding exactly what you said, you need it a week after you throw it out right? So my way of thinking is why store it for 10 years, throw it out and need it a week later when you can throw it out today and need it next week saving 10 years of storage!
Yes you do have a point funny creatures we are. I'm still looking for that pedal it's funny the way things just disappear I did find a few other things I can use on the Chevy so wasn't a total waste of time
I think there's a little junkman and all of us. It goes with the territory. I remember we built cars with nothing but junk parts were happy as a lark. It just kills me to throw anything out that I even think will be of use. I'm a little on the cheap side to.
I guess every one collects some thing ,mine just happens to be pre 71 chevy parts Double hump heads ,intakes Transmissions ,Blocks what ever ,Like you said if I got rid of these I would need one next week >
Had a friend in high school who had a van similar to my '64 Econoline except his was a '67 LWB and had side windows. Anyway, he bought the Cal Custom barefoot type add-on gas pedal. Thing was, it was too heavy for the carb return spring and the first time he started it up and drove away, the pedal stuck about halfway down.
Now Hank was a real nice guy but not the sharpest- it really scared me to hear about it but thankfully he had the presence of mind to shut the key off. No PB or PS so all was good.
BTW, this was the same guy I talked about before who installed and filled a waterbed in the back of the same van. First time he hit the brakes hard the waterbed rolled forward like a mini tsunami and broke the rear seat mounts off, pinning him to the steering wheel/windshield.ain:
The left foot pedals were used in boats that had cavitation plates.
