bentwings Hey nice pictures. sorry we couldn't get together.

Here is my weekend:

Wed night was early registrtion and it went smoothly. For some it did not however. I managed to slide the dually into the end slot just as another truck pulled out. I think it took longer to walk up to the reg. area than it did to complete the form and post the $$$.

Thurs afternoon was the 25th annual gathering of the Willys clan. We had 13 Willys. They ranged from a pure stocker running and driven to the events, a couple gassers, pickups, street cruisers, and my Pro Street.

One of the guys brought about 40 pounds of ribs,,,,,munmun good.

the host displayed his new 35 4 door. pristine steel body. he is about 3/4 done. 2 tone gray sbc and OD. It's going to be a great cruiser.

Friday dawned with rain storms but eventually dried out untill evening. I just made it to the shop and had my car on the trailer ramps as the great storm hit. The barely made it into it's home dry but the owner got soaked closing up the trailer.

I was a bit late getting to the fairgrounds so I knew I'd be relegated to the SW parking lot. I made 2 laps in the mist then parked and cleaned up. I visited a few vendors, had a few french fries then wandered around looking at cars. I found 5 more Willys and met some nice owners. The balance of the day I just rested where I could and watched the endless parade of cars.

Sat was very damp and humid, it even rained most of the way to the FG. i did arrive about 7:00 am and found a nice spot just inside the gate. Just ahead of me was one of my cruise guys so we parked together. There were 2 other Willys just down the street so I went and visited with them for a while. Then I wandered around checking out cars and some other vendors. Finally about 1:00 pm I settled in to watch the parade with some cruise buddies. I had to stay off me feet as I had to play a double headder baseball on Sun. I finally left about 8:30pm and took the long way cruise down Snelling ave. There were hundreds of spectators along this street as usual. You have to be careful as they sometimes will jump right out in front of you to get pictures. The cops were out in force so there wasn't much horsing around on the street.

More rain and thunderstorms Sat night. I waited untill the last minute to see if the game was on but there was no E-mail or phone calls so I headed out to Webster about an hour drive. Arriving at the ballfield it looked like like a waterpolo pool. I called the coach and he said the games were transfered to Mongomery about another 25 miles away. Good thing I left on time. I just made it to the warmup and batting practice. The other team was short 2 players so another guy and I volunteered to play on the other team. The field a bit wet but in excellent condition. I play 2nd base and the wet infield and well raked sand really slowed the ground balls down. Good thing as my home team hits really hard. I got to bat against 3 of our pitchers and hit the ball pretty hard for an old guy. So I felt good. We played 2 7 inning games. It was a great day after the clouds left.

I was so stiff today at work i could hardly move.

33Willys77 Got back home tonight around 6:30pm. Had a great time - Thanks for posting a picture of my car.

The count on Saturday morning was 12036 cars registered. The storms that came through did not affect the attendance much at all, if it did.

64SS327 No I didn't. It was pretty cool. A buddy was with and I didn't want to slow down the show with me taking too many pictures. I took these with my phone and used my flickr app to upload them.

I'm surprised there were as many people there today as there was. It turned out to be a great day from what it looked like it might be in the morning.

As always there was a lot to see. After almost four hours of walking we decided we saw enough and headed out for the two hour drive home.

Too Many Projects I'm glad you took a pic of that Corvair. I took a few on my phone camara but the only way to download them is to email them to myself.
Anyway, that Corvair was beautiful AND for sale..........only 30k...

Did you get any pics of the Mercury Comet that was next to it or was that gone?? I took some for 71BB. It will be a while before I can get them on here.

64SS327 Anyone ever see a Corvair gasser? This was at the Back To The Fifties show this weekend too. Lots of cool cars to see.

Well, actually, at 10,000 cars its getting almost too big to see them all in a weekend - esp if you want to do an "in depth look" at a some of them.

However, I do know some folks who think 100 cars is too big. One of the local shows (Langley Days) goes about 2,000 to maybe 3,000 cars and a lotta guys don't go because its too big.

Different strokes......
The Fairgrounds encompasses 320 acres of which approximately half gets covered with cars during this event. Yes, it IS big and requires a LOT of walking to take it all in in one day. If a person were to split it in half and take 2 days, it's not so bad. Also, many of the national vendors are here for the 3 days and you can see their products and talk with factory reps. Unfortunately, they don't offer much in the way of "show discounts" because they don't want to undermine their distributors....

In contrast, Car Craft Nationals that will be in the same venue next month only gets 5-6,000 cars and only rents about a third of the property for it.

. How in the world did you get pictures without people all around the cars ? It's usually so crowded that it's almost impossible to get the shot I'm after.

I missed the show again this year. Sometimes Life just gets in the way.

My wife and I are going next year....no matter what comes up !!

It stopped raining just as I got there at 6:15am Friday and didn't rain again until around 8:00pm. That's when the wind downed even more trees/limbs and damaged/destroyed a few vendors rental tents. REALLY nasty weather.
Saturday it rained overnight and into the early morning and then cleared up but stormed again early this morning and rained until around 10:00am. I went to the swap meet at 12:30 to meet a guy I bought some parts from and pick up my english wheel from the vendor in the Grandstand. The sun came out around 1:00pm and it got HOT and HUMID with all the standing water everywhere.

Many people were considerate about waiting for me to get a pic but a few, I had to ask to please stop walking or move. One guy walked right in front of me while I was holding my camara and took a picture like I wasn't even there...

Gotta just go without her. I'm gonna try to plan a route 66 tour next year and my wife won't go with. She just said "have fun"... 2015 I'm gonna try to plan on doing the Power Tour. It ends in the Wisconsin Dells next year and should start from there in 2015. Too close by to not go on that one.
